First grow, wardrobe grow help and suggestions.

Hey Guys, I'm thinking of setting up a grow box. I have this wardrobe closet dimensions: 1.5 ft deep, 3.8 ft wide and 4.25 ft tall. I cleaned it and am getting ready to line the inside with panda film and put some foam tape around the doors to keep it light tight. I figured I can hang the light from the clothes bar and it's already white so I don't need to paint it.

However I'd be lying if I said I didn't feel a little overwhelmed.

I was thinking of making the top compartment for seedlings but would it be enough room?

Doing the math I would need a lamp around 400 watts but I'm confused about what to do between the vegetative and flowering stages. Do people change their entire light system or do they make ballasts that can accommodate different type and size bulbs? I haven't even considered what type of ventilation system yet.

What kind of light(s) and fans would you suggest, should I bother with a carbon filter? If you have a budget around a couple hundred dollars how would you set it up?

I am growing in an armoire and I can tell you that you will run out of room real quick once you get lights, pots, and fans in there. As for your vent system: I use passive intake and started out with the standard computer fans for exhaust. Once the plants started to have an odor the computer fans just didn't have enough power to operate with any carbon filter system. I finally bought an inline fan and a carbon filter that stopped any problems, you will have to deal with the odor at some point so you may want to plan ahead. I would also line the bottom (floor) with something in case of spills. Good luck with your grow.

Hey Fish, thanks for your suggestions they're much appreciated.

Do you think I should go for one of those all-in-one inline exhaust, light, cool tube etc.with a duct intake and outtake, or should I just scrap the wardrobe and get a tent?

The wardrobe works out great if your looking to grow just one or 2 plants. I grow with leds so can't give you any advise on the all in one system. If you can go with a tent that would be my suggestion, I'm going to upgrade to a tent after this grow. I just need more room, all your going to be able to fit in a wardrobe is one or two plants once they mature and go into flower. I have one that is 2 weeks into flower and its a tight fit (depth wise) for her in there and I have 32" of depth in mine. I still have plenty of height through Topping and LST while she was in veg, but that made her thick and wide. Just my 2 cents though. I'm sure someone else on here can give you some better advise on the all in one systems. If you do use the wardrobe and go with passive air intake, cut more holes in the back than you think you will need, tape some of them over, then if you need more air coming in, it is simple to just cut the tape away from the hole, its a real bitch to cut holes like that once you are fully operating and already have everything in place.

Thanks Fish, how is growing with LEDs?

I'm thinking about topping (nipping the two middle pedals) and LST (twine to help the branches grow where I want them.) so it should lower the height significantly.

I'm thinking of ordering the Apollo Horticulture GLK400GW19 400 Watt Grow Light kit off amazon.

The reviews looked good and I can dim the light for when I'm cloning and vegging.

The led is great. I went with a 240 watt led and a 90 watt ufo bloom booster. Plant seems to love it.
