First Growing Attempt!! Advice Welcome

^^ Yea, what he said. You can pick up enough CFL's from Wal-Mart that will grow your plants from seedling to flower.

There are different CFL's you will want to buy for different stages of the plants life. I would recommend using 3 27 watt (100 watt equiv.) per plant. You want the bulbs that say 6500K on them for veg and 2700K for flower.

More blue light is suppose to give you more females, so if you decide to use both bulbs, I would get more of the 6500K bulbs. The good thing about CFL's is you can get them really close to your plants and not burn them - so get them as close as possible. I'd recommend anywhere from 1-2 inches away from the plants.

I saw that you don't want to use any nutes. I wouldn't recommend that, but if you want to go that route, make sure you get a really good organic soil like Fox Farms Ocean Forrest. It will need to be a good soil so that there's enough food in there to sustain plant life for 3-4 months. If you want to use nutes, I would recommend some organic nutes. I use Biocanna's line of organic nutes and have had great success with them. You can find that stuff online as well. I would buy the Bio Vega, Bio Flores, and BioBoost. Use all three of those and you should see excellent results.

Here's their website, as well as some sites you can purchase it from:

Below is a picture of a CFL:

I don't think anyone has said this yet, so I'm going to tell you. PH PH PH PH! Make sure you get a PH test kit. You can find those for fairly cheap at Wal-Mart or Home Depot. You can do a lot of bad things to these plants, but get the PH wrong and they will die for sure. Since you are growing in soil, you want your waters PH to be anywhere from 6.2-7. I usually shoot for 6.2-6.5, but anything in between 6.2-7 should work. You might also find that your waters PH is too high. We can solve this easily by getting some PH down from a pet store or anywhere they sell aquarium goods.

Good luck my friend and if you have anymore questions, I'm always here - well sometimes ;)

P.S.

Don't you just hate it when someone tells you to read the GROW FAQ?

Well, my buds have sprouted, and here are the results!.... I'm hoping I've got lady plants.

I circled the ones that sprouted... there were a few others as well.

And here's the one I planted. How do they look?

Hey GrnMan, yeah.. although it is good advice, using the GrowFaq and all, but some folks might have advice others don't. I totally appreciate the advice though, it's really helpful.

I ended up finding some organic fert in my shed, and I'm all set right now. I'll see if I can find a good blub and lamp.

How do the pics look? Those were only after about 32 hours of germination.

I'm going to try an find something that is simple, if I can find a basic desk lamp that can handle a CFL bulb, and just use that I will... (I've got plenty more seeds so that I don't have to worry about growing them one at a time).

So far, so good... now I just have to wait for the plant to actually start growing. HAHA

go here, click onto flood and area, then click the top left "70w HPS"

that is perfect for a cheap single plant grow, and if you feel like gettin your nigga-rig on, you can separate the ballast from the lamp to combat any possible heat issues.

or, as others have mentioned, 6 or so 20-40w cfls will do the job, the more you have, the better. remember it is basically impossible for your plant to have too much light.

couple'a q's:

what strain are the seeds, are they feminized? or are they bagseed?
what size is your grow space?

I'm not sure what strain the seeds are, they're bag seed, but it's good shit. It's got some nice orange-ish hairs and it provides a good clean hit.

As far as the size of my grow space, I keep it on my desk by an open window during the day then at night I put it near a fan at a very light setting, just to get the CO2 going.

too late too plant outdoors now anyway, if you did you'd have a minuscule yield.
I wouldn't want to plant outdoors anyway. There are barn cats all over my area, and they'll eat my plants anyway, that and my actualy vegetable garden barely survives what with all the deer munching away.

In a perfect world, I would be growing it outdoors and let it happen they way nature intended on it... but alas, critters find the pot a mighty tasty treat.

flo lights are good for vegging...for flowering, home depot has a 150 watt hps for $99.... i take it the seed you have germinating is feminized(because you only want to grow 1 plant)....not to sound mean but.....oh how do i put this?....do some research BEFORE you start germinating seed--once they crack they are ready---so you need to be ready!

--150 watt hps $99
--cfl lights maybe around $20
--basic fan to cirrculate air(also streghthens plant) $10
--thermometer/humidity reader $6
--exaust fan $12(basic bath fan 50cfm--a little on the loud side but will do the job for small area,TEMPERATURE AND EXAUST ARE CRITICAL!!!)

**do yourself a favor and grow as many girls as your space allows**
GOD SPEED

^ something like that.

take into mind that you are planting a non-feminized seed, so it could be male. maybe think of growing 2 if you can, it doubles your chances of a female.

I think of it this way, if it isn't a female.. and it does grow, then at least I know I have the capability of growing a plant. Y'know?

So, I planted the seed (that I started germination on Friday with) on Sunday, and now I already have a fully upright sprout. Is this good? Is this normal?
