First Growing Attempt!! Advice Welcome

Well, this will be my first ever grow. I started today and have already started by putting the seeds in the wet paper towel and glass. I'm going to try and do it without all the fancy equipment (considering I don't have that kind of moolah).

If you have any suggestions on cheap, but efficient equipment please let me know, I'd be very greatful.

Obviously I'm going to get a basic heat lamp, but other than that I can't really think of what else is vital to growing it.

I'm going to do a trial-by-fire growing, and I'll see what happens. I'll keep everyone posted with pictures and updates.

you have germinated your seeds before you have growing equipment...

Obviously I'm going to get a basic heat lamp,

heat lamps are for treating back pains and muscle strains.

before anyone can recommend anything, you are going to have to tell us;
how much available growing space you have, how many plants you are growing and are costs and stealth issues?

I have the basic equipment, a pot to put it in, good soil, good water... I'm kind of against using fertilizers though, so none of that.

I meant a basic heat source. Not ver batum "heat lamp". And, I think you're thinking of a heat pack.

Well, I have very little space, I'm putting it in a concealed area. I'm only growing one plant. As far as stealth issues, I'm paranoid and I don't want the even slightest chance of someone seeing it. Costs, well I don't make to much money doing freelance artwork, and I want to save money by not buying from others anymore.

without fertilizers, your yield will be substantially smaller. and bear in mind, you can get organic fertilizers.

can you give the dimensions of your space? i would suggest using cfls or possibly a 70w hps. there is no need for a basic heat source, lighting is sufficient enough.

and no, i wan't thinking of a heat pack. i have a heat lamp.

if you buy this a basic heat lamp
YOU will infact end up with this fire growing

that light is WAYYYYYY to hot..
eather get some cool tubes or clf's that screw into a socket.
and YOU need a fan. to blow a soft breeze to simulate wind
will make stronger stock.
and YOU need an opaque pot with drain holes.
and best to decide now what kind of soil you want to use

I thought about using an organic fertilizer, I've got a good place near by that has some decent kinds.

Any suggestions on a brand?

Dimensions I'd say, when I'm not home about 2x2 (feet). And when I am home, about 5x4.

I've also got a fan too, a small one that isn't to strong to keep air circulated.

Huh, I've never heard of using a lamp on sore muscles..

Yeah, when I typed that in I realized what I said. I have a lizard and that was probably what I was thinking, but I'd never imagine using a heat lamp on a plant.

Got the pot, and I have the soil I use for my regular garden outside. It always gives me great results with my herbs and veggies.

very good make sure you add more perlite or vermiculite for drainage and so soild will not become compacted. as well if it is MG soil I suggest adding some peatmoss.
this is infact the crap I am stuck with... for anything else is a 100 mile drive in one direction... BUT MG soil can be made to work. never a best first choice if choices can be made.
you may want to read up on
lollypopping
Fimming
topping
and LSTing for such a small space this may be of benifit for you

heat lamps, flood lights, and basic incandescent house lights will "grow" the plant. but.. they just do not put out enough light in the right spectrum for growing. you will end up with plants that are very tall, lanky and generally weak. for a small space and lack of cash, id recommend CFL's, they are fairly cheap and require no seperate ballast. do your self a favor, read the GROWFAQ at the top of the page. after that take said knowledge and apply it to your grow. good luck guy.

I actually thought about using my vanity lamp, oddly enough (I as well am a lady). I'll find something, but the CLF bulbs seem to be the recommendation of the day.

I'll give the GROWFAQ another look through. That's where I got the idea for germination of the seeds.

Do you happen to know the cost of a few of these CFL bulbs?

You can get like a 6 pack 23/26 watt 1500 Lumen CFLs at Walamrt for 10-15 bucks I think. Just make sure they are the right socket type, think E32 is standard.
