I believe in starting small so don't laugh to hard. Here are 2 pics of my first hydro grow. Just sprouted today and I'm wondering when and what I should add the the water to feed this little girl. Right now its just wicking up tap water I let sit out for a few days. Cute isn't she? :-P Picture 007.jpgPicture 005.jpg

so far your seedling looks fine...the water in the mason jar is uneccessary at this point, as your plant doesnt even have roots to soak up the water, so you will have to top feed it until then...guess it will work to catch your overflow water...Im takin it ur trying to do a DWC?..if so, your going to need to make that mason jar light proof....light leaks promote algea in rezzies and that, you dont want....also when you start using your jar as a rez, i would suggest using a small airpump and airstone to get some oxygen in that water...for now, lay off of any nutes...she/he doesnt need them at the moment...i personally start my seedling on nutes sometime around week 3...some people sooner, some later im sure....

I was looking in to other ideas for a rez, was thinking black plastic for light and so I could run an air line through it. Air pump and stone to come soon. What do you start yours on at 3 weeks?

So far its just some cotton medical wrap that I put a seed in, let hang in some water that wicks its way up to the seed. Going to pick up an air pump w/ stone today to aerate the reservoir when the roots get down that far.

Transplanted her into a new set up, found a emerald mixed nut container and put an air stone in it. Bubbles right up into the clay and root. Now time to sit back and watch them grow.:weed:

These pictures make me grin.

What are you using for a wick? It looks like a tampon :D

You want to get those two seedlings out of the same container soon; they are just going to grow together and then you'll kill them getting them apart.

I use Dyna-gro nutrients. Get a little bottle of grow and another of bloom and keep using your tap water. I would not be in any rush to feed them. they get plenty from their cotyledons and micros from the tap water.

Your temperature looks a little high for fast growth.

Have lots of fun lol.

Oh yeah also checked out the water today, running 7.5ph and 180 ppm.
Glad it makes you grin, it does the same for me.

that pH is a little high but 180 is good tap water. Mine is more like 380ppm. Once you get around to adding nutes that should drop your ph into a better range.

Right now two 27w full spectrum cfls, also have 4 18" T8 lights going in soon. 2 2700k and 2 5000k. Thinking about adding two more cfls when i add the others too. Mo is betta right? Temp is 88f and 40% humidity, I'd like to raise the humidity

Still in the process of building a nice box for the girls so its still lights in a bucket with an ice cube. Everything is going good, picked up some meters, ph up & down, nutes and scored some roots excelurator. Managed to get the water temp down so its cool to the touch and got it to 5.9ph at that temp. Didn't add anything to the water, just filtered the chlorine out and it came in at 200ppm. Humidity at 42% and 77f. I kinda want to try the roots excelurator but after reading a little I'm not sure I want to use it on the little junky test seed.. Its only 5 days old but still small. I'm surprised the bigger one in soil is twice the size of the hydro plant and is only a day older.

Got busy last night and made a mini DWC with a 1 gal reservoir. Small pump inside to help mix and fill root chamber. There is an air stone in the root chamber along with a series of drain and over flow holes to control water level. All in all I'm psyched! Finished playing with the ph at 2am, woke up today and its sitting at 5.9ph and 170ppm. Dropped the little girl in and tossed the the little dirt balls on the reservoir.

Here are some close ups of the sprout and roots. Roots are taking off nicely but the leaves are a bright almost neon green when compared to the soil plants dark green leaves. Thinking about adding a very mild nute solution but still on the fence about it.. Any thoughts?

Your roots look terrific. Resist the urge to feed. the seedling is getting all it needs from its cotyledons for the moment, You should get another couple sets of leaves and then start feeding. The hydro plant will leave the dirt plant in the dust after that.

Got the box most of the way done and tossed the plants in. Lights are all on but the ventilation is half what it should be.. Temp is 85f.. Hopefully I can finish this thing tomorrow and get the temps down. Pic of the difference in color and another of the roots.
