you may have a PH problem...check the PH of the soil...not the runoff.

also the trich development is mostly genetic so i wouldnt consider that a issue, some genetics are covered in trichs some just are not.

lower leaves will die, its just how the plant gets rid of un needed foliage....at least thats my thought...plants do not look on the brink of death to be honest but get that PH checked, you can get a cheap soil PH test kit...run multiple samples. may need to just start PHing your water and it will adjust over time...you using molasses at all?

also PH is known to change when starting your flowering nutrients as potash has a high ph.....also do a ph test of your nutrient solution...if the ph is high there then chances are the soil ph is changing slowly over time.
