In the latest attack on the American people, a decorated War Hero has been arrested and charged with five counts of third degree criminal possession of a weapon, for having empty 30 round AR-15 Magazines in his vehicle. On Sunday January 6th Staff Sgt. Nathan Haddad, a decorated combat veteran, was driving through Jefferson County New York when he was randomly pulled over for a vehicle check. Haddad, who had five 30 round empty magazines in his possession, was arrested by the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department and charged with five felony counts.

According to Haddad’s brother, Michael Haddad, Nathan thought these magazines were legally made before the New York Assault Weapons Ban. When Nathan Haddad was arrested the new ban had not even been fully enacted yet.

This is not a criminal, this is not some thug looking to hurt people; this is a decorated combat veteran who was recently honored by the Philadelphia chapter of Blue Star Mothers and the Union League’s Armed Services Council for helping disabled vets get back on their feet. What’s happening to Army veteran Nate Haddad is an absolute attack on liberty. Here we have a man who honorably served his country, who was trusted with weaponry that far exceeded anything he was carrying, that now finds himself facing the possibility of spending years in prison.

The Bill sets up the following measures in New York:

  • An expanded ban on assault weapons that broadens the definition to include semiautomatic pistols and rifles with detachable magazines and one “military-style feature”.
  • It Forces gun owners to renew their licenses every five years.
  • Bans semiautomatic shotguns with one military-style feature.
  • Bans any gun magazine that can hold over 7 rounds of ammunition.
  • Requires anyone with these weapons to immediately register them with the state.
  • Bans Rifles with hanguards on the barrel (yes including 22s and rifles from the 1800s)
  • etc....

New York Of the 769 homicides reported in 2011, 393 were the result of handguns. There were 16 deaths by shotgun, five by rifle, and 33 by an unknown “firearm-type,” the state Division of Criminal Justice Services reports. The liberal loonies have lost it. Just keep pointing at their foolishness it will backfire.

The NY law is unconstitutional. This will make a good test case.
yeah this is never going to stand. Whats even more ironic is only 5 rifle cases logged if they wanted to make a difference they picked the wrong firearm. If this guy passes the NRA background check it will be game on.

so it's a hoax?

I couldn't find anything debunking it, but here's an arrest report from 1/7
http://www.watertowndailytimes.com/article/20130107/NEWS07/701079944

Over 300K hits on google search and they are all the same story about him getting arrested before the law was even signed. I even typed hoax into the search field and everything came up as the OP states.

Btw, watertown daily news also did a feature on him and his aquatic therapy for injuries received during duty. It's a legit local paper listing his arrest, not a right wing blog.

Why do you say it's not real Ginja?

how could someone be arrested and charged under laws that arent even signed into law till 9 days later?

yes he probably was arrested and yes he probably was charged

but it was not anything to do with the new law as the op states

Ah, I get what you are saying.

Does it matter though which shitty law caused the arrest? A highly decorated, injured war vet was arrested for having empty mags.

How is this cool?

he was arrested for breaking existing (and tested assumable) laws

as a vet however injured or decorated he is it doesnt give him a get out of jail card

Arrested for empty mags? You really feel this is just?
as it was under an existing tested law it seems the courts do consider it just

appealing to my emotion whether its thru his service, the fact he's wounded or whether i feel unloaded illegal mags are reason enough for punishment is neither here nor there

Yeah, I'd have the same reaction if it were your Grandma instead, but I was definitely playing the emotion angle. It usually works with my more liberal friends;)

The only thing good about this law is it's a state thing. I tend to allow more leeway to state's idocies because it's still possible to move and remain in the US.
