First Organic grow with dry amendments.. Any tips/ help ?

Whats up RIU folks. Vbz here at my attempt to grow organics all outdoor with amended soil.. And all other organic Ingredients.. I am starting off with 2 pretty Fire bagseeds i recovered from a dispensary blue dream and a facemints. Im using Happy frog potting soil ,added pearlite, 25% earthworm castings , jobes all purpose 4-4-4 for veg and jobes tomato and garden 2-5-3 for flower. Im doing 2 tbsp of 444 per gallon of grow medium for veg 1.75 gallon pots for veg and 2 tbsp 50/50 of both bloom and veg with 7 gallon buckets for the final transplant. also will let cook for 2-4 weeks in their pots.. From what i often see alot on the forum most usually stand by this method/recipe maybe with more added work. Any tips / advice is needed for a little more understanding to all this leave the negativity in the trash.. We all live and learn, I have a pretty good feeling about it. I dont mind failing and getting back to it but this cant be that difficult.. We'll see. Will be here from start to finish if we get there

Sounds good. If you have the time, mix it as soon as possible and wet it good to have it “cook”. Also depending on strain sometimes the 4-4-4 in final pot is to much N in flower, normally I’ll just do 2 tablespoons of bloom per gallon in final pot.

Think you're on the right track. I grew for the first time last year, all organic, started indoors with Coast of Maine Stonington Mix (specifically made for cannabis), then after I was able to sex them at week 8 they went right into the ground. I had the native soil tested by a lab then amended based on results.

Things went really well overall, a few wrinkles here and there but ended up with some 10-foot plants and had an excellent harvest.

One lesson: I tested the soil again last fall and I ended up going way overboard on phosphorus--in large part because I used a ton of composted cow manure. Didn't seem to hurt the plants at all but I shouldn't have topdressed with fish bone meal at all. My P is pretty much off the charts now. So during the grow season I would say use a light hand with amendments--just give them what they need and nothing more.

As an experiment I did one plant in a 7 gal. smart pot. I notice that's the size you're aiming for. I would go bigger or go in the ground if you can. Not only a bigger harvest but the 7 gal. smart pot really dried out fast in the heat...if I went away for a day or two during hot weather I came back to a wilted plant (it survived and ended up producing beautiful buds). I would go for 10 or 15 gal pots if you can manage the weight.

I grew organic my 1st grow with that same soil and turned out pretty good and while looking at my old pics I would say my fan leaves were too dark during flower so I’m guessing it was too much nitrogen and the buds weren’t all tasty

What was your recipe if you dint mind me asking? Were you just using same soil as in happy frog ?

And would you have a recommendation ?

Yes I had that happy frog with natures pride dry amendments that was it I weekly top dressed and things went fairly smooth but it seems that have more precise dry amendments to use so I wouldn’t worry about a thing

Heres what ill be working with. My blue dream and facemints with a big difference in leafs. Ready to see how these will react to what ill be feeding them since they've both came from dispensary bud so im guessing a heavy tolerance.

They are just adapting from a indoor to outdoor transition. Not sure about the Nitrogen since i just used old potting soil and small recharge teas for right now.

Quick update.. Topped my blue dream since it was getting lil too tall and i wanted to shorten it out. Was checking the new node growth out and seen this nutsack growing... Fuck. I dont think it responded well to that and tweaked out lol. Gonna give it few days to get a 100% confirmation then give it the chop. Not sure what to replace this with since i have 1 extra ready supercharged pot of soil..

As for my facemints its doing great. Leaves are looking good i love the strong indica traits its giving off and i accidently rubbed part of the leaf and got this huge wiff of skunk already... Never came across a plant so young with so much smell. Not going to top this since how short it is and how i seen the other plant react lol.. So ill give it time to do any stress tests just to be safe than sorry

Fox Farms uses oyster shell for the Cal/Mag. It will be used up pretty fast with that soil. I would look into a supplement to amend with.

Thank you for the heads up yeah i had heard few answers to that. Didnt know that before i mixed my soil up but i heard the microbes and EWC do the Phing ? Correct me if im wrong and doesnt happy frog have sum type of buffer?

I believe so yes. During flower i guess it takes less nitrogen and more phosphorus and potassium along with a few other things to keep it in check. From what i know at least

To be honest, if it does I never noticed it since I always P.H’d my water before hand and top dressed the soil with Dol Lime.

I’m pretty sure too much of anything added with excess heat equals bammer weed
