First out door grow in NZ

hey guys, im from the north island of New Zealand and was after some tips.
i have just two plants that are about a foot high. at the moment they have just have blood and bone water and sunlight..
any hints on feeding them or what light they need etc would b a help..
they havn't got that much growth so how could i encourage them to veg?
any general tips will b much appreciated

Interesting area to be growing, my only advice is beware of any upcoming frosts that may kill the plant, other than that, from what I know north isl. of NZ is sub-tropical in some places and can be a decent place to grow. Goodluck sorry I don't have much good tips / info just read around you'll learn

To better answer your question, some key info is needed. What type of soil, Are they in pots if so how many L each, How much blood&bone per L of soil (approx), How many hours of direct sunlight are plants recieving, How often you water. Is your grow area secure or in the wild?

My experience with growing has always been in the wild, I've grown in scrub, pampus (cutty grass), swamps, pine forests, native forests and even out in a paddock. The difficulty I faced was having the plants in the open enough to get good growth, while staying a part of the surrounding vegetation and thus out of the view of police helicopters, as well as the rare pig hunter strolling past. 40L planterbags work well as you can pull them under cover should you know the pigs are flying about. Finding a good location free from people and pigs is perfect. that leaves the third P, possums. 30mm galv chiken wire is the most prevalantly used tool to keep possums out of your cannabis. bear in mind that it will need a roof, as they're not bothered to climb up the netting for the chance of some tasty greenery. On the flip side, once the girls go into bud mode, the possums will completely leave plants alone.

I should say too that I dont use bloodandbone outdoors unless Im sure theres no possums about, as the smell draws them right to your plant. Same with pigs, Ive had them root up some nice plants. My alltime favourite weapon in the fertiliser department is good old sheep pellets. You cant add too much, infact you can grow directly into a bag of sheep pellets. cut holes in top of bag for plant, and bottom for drainage. When used like this you can grow in a forest area with large trees without wasting fert feeding them! (pine trees are huge feeders)

A friend of mine planted last month and it's already flowering, he's in central north island, you should be able to avoid it though.

thanx for the tips guys. im growing in an avacado orchid that is reasonably secure. will put up some pics for feed back as im totally new to growing. the pots r too small this i know but am unsure whether to replant into the ground or a bigger pot.. not sure if i will need to move them etc.. if i was to move to another pot wat would b a good cheap soil/nutrient??? havnt seen any signs of possums and theres no chance of pigs but will limit blood and bone. its spring here and days r getting longer and hotter. im guessing they get direct sunlight from about 9am through to about 6-7pm and i water them every two ta three days. they are just in potting mix at the moment. Thanx keep the advice coming

think one may b flowering but am not sure. isit bad if it is?

heres some average quality pics will get better but any comments are welcome heres plant one the smaller one possibly flowering smells strong... plant two which is going well i think but is too big for its pot.. shoe is for size comparison

It's pretty easy to know if it's flowering, check the internodes for pistils. Google how if you don't understand what I mean. Also if it smells a significant amount more than the other plants then it may be flowering. How old are your plants? What strains?

got given them as seedlings so dnt knw age or strain. estimate about 2 and half munths

Plants look healthy, they have enough nutrient at the moment.

They are flowering at the moment, so go and read up on sexing cannabis plants so you can rip out any males. (no males, no seeded buds)

They will NOT continue to flower because the days are getting longer, signalling for the plant to grow.

Instead they will be in abit of a stasis for some time, (1-3 weeks) while they revert back to vegetative growth. (Hard to say from pics but it does look like its trying to get back into grow mode)

Why this happen? Planted your seeds too early, when there were less than 12 daylight hours. This signals plant to start to flower.
Next time wait till October, middle of Sept. at earliest.

Go ahead and up pot them, unless you're a real rough bastard, you can't do any harm up potting
As for cheap grow mix, I've already recommended budget potting mix 40L bag mixed with half a 8kg bag of sheep pellets. $20ish at the warehouse.

they were plantd quite early i knw that much so that will b why they are trying to bud.. should i remove the buds tht r trying to grow or leave them? also which photo has the female? first one? they also dont seem to b growing much in height just alot of leaves but am woundering if that has to do with pot size???
would 20L buckets b any good to plant into so can bury the bucket to reduce visibility..?
if i was to plant in the ground how deep would i dig to make sure theres no roots in the way and use potting mix to fill the hole etc?
two last question lol can i give them too much DIRECT sunlight at the moment? dont wana burn thm or wateva and will they b ok in the pots they are in for a bit longa?

Yes... Give them as much sun as you can, then they will start growing good.
Dont use buckets if you have grass where to plant them. Dig about half a meter,try to make the soil nice and airy.
if you can , get some organic stuff rich in N .
That should do. If you are planting without bucket leave at least half a meter between one and the next plant to give them space for the roots to develop healthy

The fact that they're growing lots of leaves and not much height is a GOOD thing, it means they're getting plenty of light.

Looking at pics I say don't remove the buds, they will grow out into a very bushy plant.

Plant into buckets only if you have to, otherwise the ground is best. Dig two of the biggest holes you can. Effort here = Reward at harvest. Plenty of organic stuff, chicken, sheep, horse manure added, and mixed into the hole is a winning formula.

Either way, I think you should be up potting asap.
