First Outdoor Grow

I have been growing indoors since 2008. This is my first outdoor grow. I started from seed late may early June. Seven plants are in 3 gallon and one in two gallon. My question is for the final pot outdoors should I go with 5 or 7 gallon fabric bags ? I'm thinking 5 because I keep reading about root bound plants. As you can see by the pic I'm afraid to go 7 because that may exceed the 5'9" privacy fence. I have topped them twice in an effort to keep them short. What do you say? And thanks for any information provided. Peace!
 
Id personally go with the 7s if I had the time to dedicate to LST them.... its not very hard to keep up with bending them over every few days if you have the time.. That way you can fill out your width instead of height. But at the same time, even with 5s or 7s I've seen plants that grow huge, it depends on feeding, genetics, env., etc. but you're right they're likely to be smaller than the 7s ... I still think you would have to train them no matter what size you pick, so in that case I again say go for the 7s.

Good luck with the outdoors... I personally love it way more than indoors.

Thanks Dunphy! I still have at least 2 weeks before I transplant. This is going to be interesting as by now at their size indoors I would put them into flower.

You may want at least 7 gallon. Preferably at least 10-15 gallon. You have skills if you been growing indoor for a while. The only diff. outdoor is that the natural summer sunshine i.e. UV, light spectrum index is exponentially higher than any indoor light can produce. Therefore there root system will fill a container much quicker. So as mentioned above, LST can work wonders for your yeild outside. I currently am growing outdoor in two 7 gallon pots and three 10 gallon pots. I did 5 gallon buckets for years. But just need a bit more. JM2C bongsmilie

Thanks! I think that will get tricky as I'm in the city. These plants are on my back deck. Sun grown plus free wind. The privacy lattice had to be put up or else they were able to be seen from the ally.

I understand now, being in the city prying eyes are everywhere. Better low key for safety. Maybe just a 7 gallon and do some lateral training.

You're only going to veg for another 3 and a half weeks then they'll start flowering.. You don't need much of a container for 3 more weeks of veg... 5 is more than enough.

Thanks Corso312. As soon as they dry up a bit I’ll repot them. Neighbors won’t be able to see during flower but I’m sure they will be able to smell. I smell them now. Super geeked!

dry up to repot? Why do that? I find they're way easier and less transplant shock when they're like right in the middle but pretty moist. It will help keep the soil from crumbling apart when you tip the plants over into your hand during transplant.

Is there a benefit to letting them dry you've found or are they just too wet or something now?

This heat has been brutal, hopefully some storms the next few days and a cool down.

I'd go with 10's at minimum, your roots will continue to grow until you harvest, the more room they have to grow directly correlates how big a plant will get and in turn the amount of yield
 
Flower has begun. Five gallon fabric. Hopefully this grow will be successful without frost or bud rot. Indoors my plants never got this big. Here are updated pics. Peace to all!
