First time Aerogrow Journal

Ok, time for an update....I was out of town this weekend, but she was a girl gone crazy while I was gone! As you can see from the pictures, I moved her to a back corner location as some have recommended so that the roots won't clog the pump. A few things that I don't like: there are some small brown spots on some of the relatively older leaves (see below), and it seems that there might be some leaf curling starting up, too. From what I read this might be due to nute burn or maybe the lights being too close to the plant. I just added nutes before I left (Technaflora RFS @ 1/3 strength), but I haven't had any issues with these nutes before. What do you guys think???

looks good & smart to move her to corner, she'll grow great there. Def. Indica if it grows like mine it will cover ur AG system in about
4 wks. I got brown spots on mine, was told no problem, vitamins/minerals not keeping up w/ growth of leaves & so far I've had
no issues. I talked to Techna Rep, she told me to use full strenght nutes, so roots & main stem grow big & strong & she was right !!
Keep posting...............

Thanks guys! Tstone, were you growing an AF plant? I have heard that the Technaflora RFS kit has a really high ppm if used at full strength. And since AFs are supposed to be more nut-sensitive I thought I would start her off slow on the nutes....but you think I should go ahead and go to full steam?

for sure, I also have 2 4" airstones ( they) suggested because of root growth. As long as u have good air coming in w/fan, air in water, good to go
Make sure to flush each wk..! & ck PH every day maybe twice a day for a wk or so when roots start taking off (about 4th wk ).
Their formula seems to be awesome for this type of grow

also the plant I'm growing is a seed I got out of a1/4oz. (4) seeds total & it was good smoke, no name weed! Fat ass seed, so thought I'd
give it a go, Started out w/ 2- 26w cfl's & the hood light 24hrs for 1 wk., then went 18/6, now I just added a 400 HPS to the mix,12" away from top
I also have to fill w fresh nutes about every 2 days because its just sucking up all water, uses about 1/3 gal each day.

Hey, just for a quick update on the brown spots and curling leaves...I'm now pretty sure my pH is too high after reading this spectacularly informative Guide to Sick Plants . I ordered a pH testing kit this morning, but I already am flushing my lady just to be sure. Can't be too careful, I figure!

So, I am a bit nervous about my girl right now (I know that it is probably unfounded), but I am pretty sure about her pH being high. I get the pH testing kit tomorrow morning, and have been flushing for about 36 hrs so far. The spots look more copper-y and there seems to be some yellow patches on about 3 of the oldest/largest fan leaves at the bottom. Also, since I started flushing I can see a few spots on the tips of the medium-sized leaves, but the new growth still looks ok. I don't really think it is nute burn persay....I think it might be nutelock b/c of the high pH. But is it ok for me to feed her once I get the pH kit tomorrow and can adjust the pH? Or should I just wait a few more days to feed her again? I don't want the girl to starve :( Help!

She should be okay until you get your kit...They still look really good so no need to panic!! Just make sure you ph your water than add nutes and check ph again before you feed. I try to keep ph between 5.5 and 5.8. So far so good, so take a deep breath and enjoy the ride!!! lol

Hey, did u start ur full nutes yet? The roots should be clean looking@ this stage, if not , PH is a problem w/these systems
I had to adj all the time , then I started using Distilled Water & that has held up well, cleaner water. U only should be flushing 1 ti,e a wk right now
until roots cover about a 1/4 of Res.
NOTE- my roots got so big, I've cut(trim ) them twice & each time the plant just PERKED UP!! I found out u can cut out brown spots & when roots bind .
They should be good keep me posted

For brown roots you can also purchase some Hygrozyme...eats dead matter so you don't have to handle the plant as much....used it once and I was sold!!

damn kay you should be a Hygrozyme salesperson. I love that stuff too.
Watch for me to appear in an infomercial!!!! lol I tell ya, my girls are doing fucking fantastic since I started using it...Sitting here already pondering my next grow! I am thinking Bubblelicious and shortryder strains, L.E.D. lights and a bigger stealth grow box!

Geez....this hydrozyme stuff sounds so good I kinda just wanna fill up my bathtub with it and jump in! But for seriously....I got the pH stuff today, and what was in the rez (distilled water only) seemed like it was somewhere in between 6.5-6.8. I also looked at the roots, and they seem pretty good to me (see the pic below). So I just replaced the rez with water+nutes....the pH of the solution before I added it is shown below (it seems like 6.0-6.3 to me). I didn't add any pH up or down since this seems like a good color. Despite all of this, the little lady continues to be growing up on me! Those originally brown-patched leaves look like crap...but everything else seems ok I reckon. Also, i saw this pistil-ish sort of thing in the photo below. Is it a pistil or just wishful thinking? Sorry for the stupid question, but I obviously have a lot of them ;)

Sorry...I meant 5.5-6.0. If you look at the picture of the sample, it seemed to me that it was more of a reddish-yellow than a greenish-yellow. Obviously a pH probe would be the best here, but I aint got it!

These are 2 items I really wished I had at the very start of my grow, but live and learn!! A very small investment for all the time you invest!
