First Time Autoflower LED Grow, Hydro (Sorta)

Hey guys,

So this is my first grow ever, i've done months of research but still have plenty of questions and could definitely use some advice along the way. I wanted to create this thread so that I could record my progress for others to see in hopes that it will become a source of information for other beginners in the future. So now lets get to the good stuff, here are all the specs of the grow!

Plants: Two feminized autoflowers, 1 Wild Thailand Ryder (World of Seeds) and 1 Auto Purple (Pyramid)

Indoors Tent size 36" x 20" x 62" (Relatively small but its perfect for what me and my wife need.)

Light: Mars II LED Grow Light 700W (350W actual draw), hanging about 22" away running a 20/4 schedule. (Might have went a bit overboard for the size of the tent but all I read about LED's were that the more watts per square foot the better!)

Pots: Im using a gravity fed hydro system (Autopots). I paid extra and got bigger pots, they are 3.9 gallons each. However, for the first 10 days or so they need to be hand fed so for now i'm not using the system, just the pots that came with it.

Medium: I'm using a mix of 50/50 Coco (Botanicare Cocogro) and Perlite (generic from hydro store). I also added about an inch of hydroton (clay pebbles) to the bottom of each pot.

Nutrients: I went with Technaflora's Recipe for Success kit. All I read were great reviews and it seems very clear cut with the schedule it came with and everything so I thought Id give it a chance.

Germination: I did the paper towel method, waited till I saw them sprout a little and then I popped them right into the 3.9 gallon pots filled with Coco and Perlite. about two seed lengths down.

Right now its been a few days since I put the germinated seeds in the pots, and it is the second day since they have sprouted. Prior to planting them, I pre-soaked the coco/perlite mix with water and a 1/4 strength dose of Root 66 and Sugar Daddy, Ph'd to 5.8. Yesterday afternoon the top of the pots had changed color and were very dry so I watered again with a 1/4 strength dose of Root 66 and Sugar Daddy (also Ph'd to 5.8), however, I'm thinking maybe I should have waited longer. Growth seems to have slowed since the second watering. If anyone has any advice for how often I should be watering, please help a brother out!

Here are pictures of the plants currently, it is the morning of day 2 since they sprouted above ground.

I read that feeding sprouts is not good in some forums and articles online but then I read in even more places that its okay to feed sprouts at diluted doses and that it can help root growth. Do you think i've damaged them with the 1/4 strength so far?

It wasnt two days in a row actually, I pre soaked the coco/perlite before planting them on a friday, then they sprouted on sunday, coco/perlite was dry on monday afternoon so I watered again then. So two waterings at 1/4 strength within 4 or 5 days. Hopefully thats not as bad

I first used tap water that i let sit for a day and ph'd afterwards along with the 1/4 strength nutes. Then the second watering I actually bought some distilled water that I ph'd to 5.8 after adding nutes. I've read mixed things in regards to using tap water vs distilled or RO water. I didnt want to wait a day for the chlorine in the tap water to evaporate so I just want to the market and bought some distilled

chlorine is not the bad guy in tap water its chloramine and it does not evaporate

if you use RO or distilled water use a cal mag product because the menerals have been striped out of the water

In the recipe for success kit theres a bottle of Magical, i think that is Technaflora's version of Cal mag, right? It doesnt say to use it in their dose schedule yet though

Imo autos do what their supposed to better under 18/6 light schedule...a lot of people say they still have to do the light flip when u run 20+ hours of light

Go online for your local water dept, they will have what levels of things are In your water, my tap actually works really well

Hey @wiethe20

Thanks for the tip! Would it be a bad thing to change the cycle to 18/6 now that the plants have had 20/4 for a couple days?

Honestly I couldnt answer that, I am new to this aswell but have a couple under my belt, but like u I do extensive research and what I have grown and seen is how I base my opinion, but I wouldn't want to give you misinformation and hurt your babies:(

Haha I hear you! Ive done tons and tons and TONS of research, and honestly, I definitely know way more after it all, but im also more confused as a result of all the knowledge lol. Everyone has a different way of doing things and there is really no way to know whats best it seems. Even on basic things like the best light schedule for autoflowers, or whether to feed sprouts or not
