First time bubbleponics grow - 250w CFL

This is my first attempt at bubbleponics, and so far so good.

The bigger plant is Big Bud and the smaller one is Strawberry Blue, both free seeds and was not expecting them to pull through but there both doing very well.

They did start dying at the start and this was quickly fixed by getting some nutes.

The Ph is perfect but im a bit concerned that I dont know anything about PPM. Does checking your PPM really matter?

Would appreciate any comments and recommendations, particularly about the fact that I have two plants in there.

The first photo has a soil Kosher Kush in the background.

Killing it for it being your first time doing hydro and not knowing PPM/PH basics! Yes too much PPM causes nutrient lock-outs.

Thought I should just share some more pis of my plants.

Done a bit of topping and removed some of the lower branches.

One plant may be male, if so im just leaving and may try crossing Strawberry Blue with Big Bud. Any ideas on what I should call the cross? Was thinking Big Purple.... But the strain itself may grow small, might need to wait till im done growing the new strain before I can get a name.

how close do u keep ur cfl at first is it the 8u cfl ? i got mine about 7 inches above but im nto sure if thats right this my first time growing

It is my understanding that you can keep the lights pretty close to the plants when using CFL, ive read you can keep them inches away. I personally feel that would burn the plants and I keep them about 14 inches away. If your plant look ok then try leaving it as it is. If you start to see it look unhealthy then leave more space between them.

I had to check ebay to see if my bulb is 8U and it is. Dont know that that actually means though.

thanks khalifa i dont see anysigns of heat stress or burning i want to try to keep them short and bushy i might try sumwhere in the middle maybe

Still unsure if the big bud is a male or female. Compared to soil they are growing mega fast.

Now changed my PH to 7, couldn't get it correct and was in a bit of a rush.

How about "Big Blue" ?

I like the name Big Blue :D

I started the germination in a glass jar, when they opened slightly I put them in rockwool and kept them in the jar with a few cm of water. They just sprouted like that :)

You should try to get your PH down to no ore then 6.5 and 5.8 would be much better. At 7 you will start to have issues with lock out.

Be very careful not to let the PPM get to high. A good meter is a Big help with DWC. Things can happen very fast with it. Keep an eye out for any changes to the leaves and stems. Up at 7 I would be keep an eye out for spots on the leaves or red stems. Those are both signs of lock out.

Red Stems aren't always a sign of lockout. Although i agree with what you said about the Ph as there is no doubt in my mind that if your Ph drifts up In The high sevens or eights you will notice more red stems.
But cant the red stems also be associated with a P deficiency? Or am I off base here a little bit? Correct me if im wrong

Looking good so far nice white roots. Very Good for your first run with DWC. What kind of water are you using tap or RO.
I like the name Big blue as well. You gotta wait and see how she grows and taste then you can give her a name that best describes her. If you get stoned enough and just stair at your plant she will tell you her name in your mind. Lol
Seriously though what kind of nutrients did you go with.

Im using tap water and a single formula nute, its called green dream.

Might try and lower the PH in the next water change, the plants keep fucking growing and growing and I keep topping and topping them. The are also not flowering so I have turned the lights off for 24 hours, hope this helps.

Don't turn the lights off, just go to a 12/12 light cycle and be patient. You'll want your PH at 5.8 preferably or at least between 5.5-6.5. 7 is a problem, like everyone else said. Flowering stage will become more delicate so you'll really want to get there.

If you run into any root problems grab some Hydroguard, shit works wonders, I put it in all the time regardless of a problem or not.

PPM is just Parts Per Million, basically will tell you what your nute level is in general. Doesn't really matter, works the same as seeing how your plants react to your amounts of given nutes. Obv ppm meter will tell you right away but you don't need to be told because you just put the nutes in so you know how much is there or not there. In your setup you will be forced to change water basically every week in the flowering cycle due to the plant drinking it all so quickly so as long as you follow a nute schedule you'll be fine.

Nice plants by the way and another vote for Big Blue!

Yea dude it could take a couple weeks before you really start seeing alot of white pistols. Also wait a little while after doing any topping or pinching to let the plant recover before switching to flower. The less stress at once the better. Do you plan on getting a little more light in there for flower. I would add at least 100 more watts.
The only time you should give your plant 24 hours of darkness is right before you flip to 12/12. And you really don't have too do that. I just move into flower room after i transplant.
