First time Grow Light Help!

I really need some advice with my lighting situation. I'm attempting to build a stealth cabinet from a closet I picked up at Home Depot. I drew out some plans on the computer and have a general idea of how I want the setup to look. However, I do not want to go broke over electricity use. I have absolutely no clue about how many lumens I need or what kind of wattage I'm looking at to make this work. The cabinet's dimensions are as followed
  • Assembled dimensions: 71-3/4 in. H x 48 in. W x 20-1/2 in. D

I'm including any pictures of my design and would appreciate any advice for a first time grower!

Going to be about 6 2/3 square feet so 50w/sqft = 333 watts. Are those the internal dimensions ? Don't think 4ft fluro tubes would fit unfortunately because that might be a cheap and easy solution. Don't know about LED myself but I would be researching them.... Obviously HID would be good - 250 or 400w ?? But most importantly what are your plans for ventilation ??

Those are the external demensions, however the inside is very close to the outside measurements. image.jpgAs far as ventilation, in the bottom left, I'll install an intake with a screen much similar to an air conditioning vent. And my output will be in the top left, with a connected carbon filter. I have plans to install 1 or 2 small 4" fans along the sides.

My original idea for lighting was to create a cfl MEGA light using this setup, image.jpg
For around $60 these lights produce an equivalent 800 watt output.

STOP .....................STOP BUILDING

i know what u are tring to do but u forgot a factor the bulbs u have in there need to be with in 3/5 inches of the plant to get the most out of them after about 8/10 inches the light is no good the power is not there...............i started with CFLs as u add more in with the plant grow the heat increases (telling u now u will have 140 degrees between those Y spilt bulbs ......u have 6 of them with in half inch of self ................the whole trouble is the light is to defused

go to a buddy u trust and has a few bucks tell them 200 bucks locks them in a price per OZ of the life of your grows (it is a investment on their part to get a locked price for the life of your grown years) it allows u to invest those funds directly into gear

*** ALSO. Each light produces 1600 LUMEN
CFLs are the wrong kind of light to use in a system like this

the Lumen power it offers is to Defused it will not go more then 10 inches of useable light from them (even on a scrog grow it is popcorn buds)

u want a LED light ................this will get u a better crop in the end and a much higher amount then u
led light shopping crash info course
1 pick your strain .............photo strains will need 2 lights............auto strains will need 1 light
2 the lights are a formula so u need to know what u are getting ..........grow/bloom/full specturm
if u do photos u need a grow light and a bloom light ..........if u are doing a autos then a full specturm will be fine

3 the lens angle on it dictates how deep useable light goes ....note this is all with the light 12 inches above the cola
120...............common this is more area of coverage about 18/20 inches in depth
90.................common this is mid lvl between depth and area of coverage about 24/32 inches in depth
60.................rare and costs .........this is the best for depth u are looking 32/40 inches

4 the light waves .........the 5 most common are UV blue red IR and 10000k (finisher)..........the blend of these lights is what each builder patterns so only they can make it...........given this do not go cheap generic lights ........in LED terms cheap is fast death since the circuts and borad is crap so they can sell cheap

5 so u know ..............if the light has UV or IR in it u need to protect your eyes so get some growroom glasses or atleast sunglass with UV protection in the 400 range.............IR lightwaves are not in the our sight range so those LEDs will look like they are off to test it just stick your hand under the light and it should get warm with in a few secs that is the IR working

LED lights seem so alien to me. Can someone please help with the following concerns...

I know for normal lighting, when you start to veg you should use lights with around +5000k
And switch to 2500k lights during flowering.

How is this done with LED??

Also, what type of wattage do you account for if using LED?

What should I be looking to purchase in my given room?

ok that is a photo strain
so u would need a grow light and it has more blue light in (mimics spring and part of summer) ............with this u run it 18/6 like other and when u want to go to flowering u get a bloom light (has more red in it mimics late summer and fall)

LED watts are great a 300w panels is only a acutal drawl of 175 watts with a very low amps

Would anybody have recommendations on led lights to purchase?
Also, would I only need 2 lights? One in at a time of course...

Alright cool. This light seems legit. With an interchangeable spectrum it seems like a no brainer.
What's the heat given off by LED's?
Should I worry about damaging the plants?

the heat is about equaled to 2 cfls going and u are 5 inches away from it ................basically u are invisible to cops with Flair ..........my tent runs 4 to 5 degrees hotter then the intake (and i only have a powered inake going no exhust if i did that i betting temp would stay with in 1-2 degrees)
