First time grow, THAI x SKUNK

My plants don't seem to be growing very rapidly after 3½ weeks and I figured I'd put up this log so I could get some advice from more experienced growers.

Im sorry I can't give details about the soil as I just went into a gardening store and asked for good soil to start tomato plants off in. I only fed them nutes once a couple days before I transplanted because I figured I'd wait a week or so because I'm afraid I shocked them pretty badly during the transplant. They've been getting very bad lighting up until yesterday when I bought 2x40W 6400k CFL's.

So here are a few pics I just took. Please let me know what you think.

Thai x Skunk is a very slow growing plant. And the lights probably have something to do with it as well.

sorry to tell ya but 2x40W 6400k CFL's are still weak lights.. esp when u have a few plants 2..

That was my plan when i started 2 to save money but u need bigger lights.. do u ph ur water? how close arr the lights

The lights are only a few inches from the closest plants but probably ike 8-12 inches from the furthest ones. Never checked my PH actually cuz my plants have always looked nice and green.

I wont be able to invest in expensive lighting setups so I'll have to go with CFL's for now. How much wattage do you suggest I use minimum?

I think its recommended around 80 watts per plant when vegging.

8-12 inches is 2 far away with thoes lights. they will stretch

U will need better lights for flowering anyway..250/400watt hps..

i have a 125watt fluresent enviro light for veg and its great its like 1 ft long I can veg 10 plants grand.. and 600hps for flowering

U have the seeds, if u spent 100-200$ on good lights, ph tester etc...
U will b paid back and much more after your harvest!!!
If u sell an oz ull have all ur money back...enjoy the rest of the bud..

ph should b 6.3- 6.8 ...... u can buy cheap tester kits for 5$..

what u should do is get a hps and u can veg and flower with that...

if u got it in the next day or 2 u could throw them into flower straight away cause they are mostly sativa so they will be tall plants...

What were u planning on doing for flowering??

I was planning on buying like 3 or 4 lower k CFL's for flowering. I get them really cheap so thats why I went with CFL's.

Just bought another two of the same kind so now I'm running 160 watts. Should be at least a little closer to enough?

Honestly though I'm not in it to make any money. All I want is to have a personal supply without having to pay 20$ a gram for some shitty weed consisting 2/3 of stems and seeds (Yes folks, thats what sweden is like. Don't come here.)

Would definitely be fun to get a real setup though, but unfortunately that's just not happening right now. I'm on a tight budget. Although if I could find a strong enough HPS for under $120 i'd go for it. Oh and I'm growing them in my bathroom so space (at least vertical) wont be a problem.

Okay, So my plants seem to be doing okay after the transplant. Somewhat slow growth (I think, this is my first time growing ANYTHING), but they're looking very nice and green and smell delicious.

I now have a fan blowing directly at my plants to encourage strong stems. I'm not sure how far I should take this though? Will running the fan constantly steal too much energy from branch and leaf growth?

I just started feeding them some nutes. It's called Roundup (any comments on this?). The pics are taken after watering and 4 hours of darkness. Is it normal that plants droop this much after their dark-time? And I've noticed that my plants droop a lot sometimes after watering. They always seem to come up stronger than ever after drying out a bit and getting some light though. Overwatering?

So I decided to make a night-time visit to my girl in the woods. I put my weakest plant out there as an experiment to see how it would turn out compared to my indoor ones. Same strain. I'm thinking I'll just let her take care of herself and visit her every two or three weeks or so just for the excitement.

I covered up the pot with moss to make it less obvious in case someone would happen to walk by.

So today I cleaned out my closet and moved my plants in there. Turned out it was too inconvenient keeping them in the bathroom in case I needed to take an emergency shit or something during the dark hours. Also, the smaller space should help me preserve the little wattage that I have better.

Still 4x40W 6400K's. Keep an oscillating fan going on low for air circulation and stem strengthening. Still curious about wether or not I should keep the fan on at all times or if that will steal too much from branch and leaf growth.

Growth seems to be speeding up a little today. I think I'll keep them in veg for another 3 weeks or so. I gotta say, this is WAY more than I ever imagined. At first it was all just for the weed but now it's all I think about! Will try to keep my t-break until harvest. I'm done paying for weed!

So I decided to try LST at least two of my plants as an experiment and to see how much more they would yield since this is my first time growing.

The pictures show my attempt on my weakest plant. Was so scared I'd snap the stem so I'm gonna tighten it up a bit later. Does it need to be close to 90 degrees?

Alright, time for a little update. My plants seem to be doing pretty well, although growing a bit slowly probably due to lack of lumens but they're still starting to look pretty nice and bushy. Thinking I'll let them veg for about 10-15 more days depending on how they look by then and then switch to flower under a 250w or 400w HPS (haven't ordered yet).

Also think I will make a few clones before flowering, because I'm kind of sketched out about ordering seeds now that I'm growing at my place.

I haven't really measured them but they look about 8" atm. So I wanna get another few inches before flowering. Since it's an 85% sativa hybrid I'll probably end up with about 25 or so inches, which would be about what the width of my grow space could handle.

So what else is new..Oh two of them are starting to show signs of preflowers. Just a tiny ball on each side of the second node from the top. Too early to tell sex (for me at least).

The smallest plant was a failed attempt to LST. It just seemed to stop growing so I let it back up after 6 days.

hey buddy wow there aint too many ppl growin this strain. Like u I am growin thai x skunk only im 5 weeks into flowering. I was wondering did u get your seeds from AMS?
Well im gonna help u out here and give u some info, this strain is a very slow strain and it will grow tall, very tall. First I think CFL's and HO Fluro's are great for vegging but u r gonna need a HPS light for flowering. I would highly reccomend a 400 watt if thats all u can afford and if thats not posible at least try to get a 250 watt HPS. I also would highly reccomend starting flowering at 12" as I said these plants get huge. I have one 5ft plant and two 4ft plants and they are only 5wks in flowering.
LST didnt work right now because your plants are way too small and under developed. Please dont take what i say harshly, Im just trying to help you. Mostly the reason they r like that is insuficient lighting. Also if your using CFL's u need to keepp them like 1" away from the tops of your plants, dont worry those lights dont get hot at all and this will prevent your plants from streaching like they allready have.
Also I know you were talking about taking clones? I would definatly wait to take your clones because one I dont even see any growing tips on any of the lower branches and two I would wait to see what plants are female. Im gonna try to help you out as much as I can because this strain is not very common and its also not as easy of a strain to grow than u were told. Dont get discouraged tho u will get thru this.
Number one I know u said u get CFL's cheap, well I would go and get as many more of them as u can right now without affecting the money u r gonna need for buying some kind of HPS light.

Also man if u reply back Ill show u some pics of my plants and will help u thru this whole grow. Yes like u said this is very addicting
