Though when you water from the top, it should create enough movement at the bottom to flush out the older more stagnant water and this should not be a problem.
-watering to 40% waste should create enough movement that you shouldn't have to "flush"

-keeping a plant smaller/shorter is easily accomplished by reducing the amount of time the plant remains in a vegetative state

For fucks sake SWIM means someone who i know lmao quit being jackasses focusing on these small things we have bigger issues my men! I am currently stoned so forgive me for my response. Anyways thanks alot for all that info my brotha. I research LST and I think i may try that with one my plants we'll see. Also root rot isn't that likely to occur right? I mean I have an airpump but if it's not that necessary im just gonna be lazy about it, maybe next time lol.

When you say watering to 40% waste do you mean that if you pour in a pint of water you should see slightly less than half (40%) of that amount of water coming out? So a little less than a cup would need to drain out the hole in the side of the bucket if i pour in a pint?

(I swear I'm not an idiot, just very careful/detailed/idk lol)

I honestly am very suprised you say the 400watt hps put out less heat than 10 CFLs, i had like no change in heat when i left them on for an hour or so and they did feel that hot when my hand was up close but after this grow i'll be upgrading to HPS/MH regardless so yeah.

Last clarification, you mean that nutes should not be given while in mini-hempy buckets (16oz cups) correct? Wait until after I transfer to 3gal bucket or did I comprehend that wrong lol. Just an estimate start giving nutes a month in?

Water to 40% waste means that at least 40% of the water that you are using goes down the drain
that means if you have a completely dry 3 gallon pot, you should water until it expels about 1-1.5 gallons. This waste water can be tested before (watering) and after (in drain pan) with a TDS meter to monitor the nutrients being taken in by your plant

For optimal CFL usage, the bulbs must remain within about 2-4 inches versus 10-14 inches with a High Intensity Discharge light

Don't give your plants nutrients until about 3-4 weeks of vegetative growth or yellowing/lightening (in color) in leaves occurs

Someone Who Isn't Me. I think it used to be considered a good cover, i remember reading drug sites a few years back and almost everyone seemed to SWIM, SWIK or some other acronym.... So 1998....

Anyways, it sounds like you've got enough of a head on you to pull off a Hempy. My understanding is that its not much more difficult than soil, but you don't quite get the buffering that soil provides. It's not quite as forgiving. On the plus side, its easier to flush if you over feed I guess.

I'm going Hempy next run as an intro into hydro. I can't wait!

Yeah word man, finally someone who knows the SWIM acronym lol, didn't know it was outdated though that's my bad. Finally found a god damn way to order from a seed bank (virtual prepaid visa card) so I should be getting started here soon. :) cheers!

Hey all!
I am a rookie grower and new to the site. I was looking for a little help.
I have three plants that sprouted from some seeds that I curiously germinated. They have grown to be about 8 inches tall with vibrant green leafs. Strong stems and pungent aroma. After doing some research, they appear to be female.
I have them under a 600watt MH light that a buddy happened to leave during a move of apartments.
One immediate concern are the discolored bottom leaves seen one of the pics. If anyone has suggestions as to what my next move should be, please feel free to respond.


Like I said, I'm new to the forums and uninformed on posting etiquette

SWIM - Someone Who Isn't Me. Herion user refer to themselves as swim when asking a question in those drug fourms. For instance swim takes 5 of the 30 oxys a days. Will swim have major withdrawals? LOL!!
