First time grower, is it time for flowering?

My dad is a pro and he taught me what he could but he has hearing problems and covid means we can’t see each other to speak.
I have two Sativa plants that were given to me as babies. I’ve done some LST and purchased 2 1200W LED lights and I’m using a 18 hr grow cycle.
I run them on full spectrum
I’ve buried the stems since the one photo.
I also use distilled water becuse my tap water is extremely hard and nutes wouldn’t balance it no matter what I tried.
The medium is promix

I use advanced nutes
8 ML of micro
12 Ml grow
5 ml BIo root
3 ml bloom
On a feed/water cycle.
I feed 5 ml bio root and 5 ml calmag

my plants seem to be doing pretty good(I think?)
I’m wondering if these plants were started from seed in a window feb 18 and were given to me March 6th with 4 sets of leaves, are these ready to flower? I have enough room to veg them longer but I do have 3 babies in my veg room that are 30 days old.

so far I’ve had no issues with plant health.
let me know any tips and tricks

The plant will tell you when it's ready to be put into flower.

Depending on the sex of the plant, you will either see pistils growing out of small calyxs (white hairs coming out of small oval shaped growth) or pollen sacks (green round sacks, not to be confused with the oval calyx) at the nodes along the plant.

This is essentially "puberty" for the plant, and is the sign that your youngster is ready to become an adult.

You can put your plant into 12/12 before you notice signs of sexing, which will speed the process up a bit... but at the end of the day, the plant is ready to flower, when it is sexually mature, which can be determined using the above sex characteristics as visual cues.


If you add some more pictures under white/natural light (lights off with phone flash works on a good smart phone), a bit closer to the plant so I can visually see the nodes, I may be able to help you determine sex if its visible. Or you can just google "male or female plant" and go to images... litterally 90% of the images are of marijuana, without even having to add the word to the search xD

Hey there. I definitely don’t see any signs that the plant is sexually mature at all. I thought flowering begins when I put the plants into 12-12 ?

Since no one has answered yet. Most don’t count the first 10-14 days as flowering its transition. Give it time

Plants can show their sex before going to 12/12 but you can also flip before that.

Essentially you want to flip when you plants are just shy of half the size you want them to finish at, since they will approximately double in size (or more) in flower.

Can you see the sex of those plants? Can I put them into transition then?

^^ This.

If the plants are 1/2 the size you want them to be...then flip them. They'll show their sex after 7-10 days regardless of if the plant is ready. There's no set "do it now!" for plants. Some people keep mother plants for a year in Veg and pull clones off of them, so it'll just keep growing until you flip the light schedule.

So, it's up to you what you want to do here.

I will attempt to answer this lol
First how much life can your plants sustain meaning how big before they plant will become unhealthy and you are unable to feed them enuff light

second are you going for weight or quality. Probably both I’d imagine most want more but the more you grow the harder itlll be to grow and might take away from sheer quality ... remember you can only bake so many pies in one or in your case 2 led ovens.

third I’d imagine your using Chinese blurple so they are probably 100 maybe 200 hundred actual watts. Fugure it out fast. Most leds won’t grow much under 1 to 2 feet bellow your canopy.( so that’s why we use multiple leds) So don’t let them grow taller than 3 feet . Try to flip at 1 1/2 feet.

Fourth is it a true stretchy sativa. Sometimes it really depends on the genetics on how much they stretch but like mentioned probably double in size. Just remembered the more branches the plant has the slower it’ll stretch.

Can you see the sex of the plants based off the photos I showed you?
I do know how to check but it isn’t “obvious” yet.
Also,
The lights are “Chinese” LEDs
I have 3 1200 watts and I used a watt/amp check and it gives off about 700-900 true watts! I was impressed.

I dont see the signs either. And yes, the flowering process does begin after you turn to 12/12. Sorry if I digressed from your original question a bit..

What I was referencing, was the pre-flower signs of sex that present themselves usually around 4-8weeks of age. You can put your plants into 12/12 whenever you want though, which should have been my main point originally.

The plant needs to be a minimum age before its able to show signs of sexual maturity... Your able to manipulate that via the light schedule, but the plant still needs to reach a certain age (2 day old seedlings cant flower, regardless of the light cycle), and still needs the transition time of a week or so after 12/12 to become sexually mature and begin to actually flower


TL;DR - Flip to 12/12 when your ready. You can wait until your plant tells you it's ready, or you can manipulate the light schedule to force it to be ready. Either way, you know it's in flower/ready to flower/flowering when you see the plant present signs of sex (calyx/pistols or pollen sacks)

I’m not looking for weight I’m looking for quality ! I can always grow more than one but if they smoke bad it doesn’t matter if I have ten or twenty they’re garbage
