First time grower - Small CFL grow

Hi all,

I paper towelled then planted 4 seeds less than a week ago in some styrefoam cups. I punched holes in the bottom and filled them with Bio-Bizz light as the starting medium. All 4 have popped up and i've placed a 45w(actual wattage, not the predicted equivalent) 6400 spectrum fairly close over them. They are greening up well and i can see the first set of jagged leaves. I'll move them into bigger pots tomorrow.

I've also got another bigger 125w 2700 cfl, is that ok to use along side the 45w 6400 for veg? Should I get another 6400 in the bigger wattage and use that instead or just use everything i can? What's a reasonable amount of light for 4 plants I will try and keep small and bushy. I have two northern lights autoflowering, and two regular MK Ultra that were freebies I felt like experimenting on.

Also, because it's the bio-bizz light, do I need nutes asap???

any tips appreciated.

Uhh no nutes for seedling till they a month old and add more light 100w per plant try and go even on the 6400k and 2700k so u could do 200w of 6400k and 200w of 2700k the smaller watt lights are more adjustable as to wherr u want the light but the bigger Watt lights let off more lumens its really depending on your set up just make Sure to check temps when u add lights.

Thanks - I'll get more 6400 lights, maybe a few smaller ones because as you say, the big ones might be too tough to position and get even coverage. From what I've been reading, distribution seems to be a real issue for CFL's

Temp is fine I think, trying to keep them between 20-25C(67-75F). I went out for a little while and I swear they were bigger when I got back!!!! I'm such a awful fusser over my babies. I look at them maybe 20 times a day :D

I want to grow fairly bushy low plants, when should I top them? Could I use the topped section to make a clone? (yes, I know, no point from the auto flowering ones as the clones will be on the same genetic flowering schedule) - I'm a newb, but I do try to read as much as I can :)

Don't top the autoflowers. Because of their set schedule, they won't have time for recovering from the topping and you'll lose yield.

As for the others, I recommend topping twice to keep it bushy. That gives you 4 main colas. Once you've got the 3rd set of real leaves growing, top it above the first set. You can use the top as a clone, but I don't recommend it. I've cloned tops before and they take 3 times as long to root as clones from lower on the plant. If you just want to try it to gain experience, however, why not. But I'd recommend topping to top, not for a clone, other wise you'll have to chop the plant in half to top it because you've waited so long for a large enough top to be a clone, if you know what I mean.

Definitely shoot for 100 Watts per plant minimum. You didn't say how big your growing space is, but if you don't have room for the plants to fully spread, you'd be better off culling some. I learned that the hard way. You may think cramming 4 plants into a small space will produce more than 2 plants in the same spot because hey, it's more plants. The opposite is true. Make sure they have room.
