My friend was wondering if it would help for bushier plants if during the veg stage he added a few flourecents to his grow room. His room is 6 feet tall but the ceiling is slanted and it drops to just about 5 feet in height. The rest is 4' 3" wide by 4' 3" deep with 1X400 watt light. He has a inline fan sucking hot air out at the top of the room and another fan blowing cool air in at the bottom, there is an oscillating fan in the room also. The temp ranges from 25 to 30' but during heat waves sometimes he has to add ice to the room in a cooler' this helps keep the temp around 30. Do you think that some flourecent lights would help for a better yield and if so how many should he add? He was also wondering how many plants should he have in this amount of space and if he should keep the flourecents through the bloom stage also?

If you want to increase yields just add the CFL's in flowering, having them nearby lower buds which do not receive enough of the primary light. To keep them bushier you could just use 6500K CFL's only during the early vegetative stage, when they are seedlings (like first two weeks) and then put them under the HPS to finish vegging. Adding the CFL's to help the HPS veg is a bit of an overkill, especially with a 400W and will just raise your temperatures. Try to LST or Top instead to keep them bushier.
