first time grower!

So my early miss seeds just arrived, and I've already got my tent, lights, kind soil, and coco loco ready to go. I tried germinating using the paper towel method recommended by CKS, and my towels dried out. I work too much to be able to keep them moist. Would there be any harm in doing it the way nature intended (kinda) and dropping the seeds in a jiffy pot and letting it grow? New to the site as well, I'm open to any tips or advice. Thanks!

Jiffys are fine mate. I pop mine in a shot glass of water to soften the shell for 24 hours and then straight into the root riot cubes. I'm not a fan of the paper towel method as I've had roots get damaged after sticking to the towels.

That's what I keep reading. I figured it was worth a shot. CKS offers a guarantee if I document and send them my failed results. I'm gonna try to soak them next time. I went ahead and dropped my dried out seeds in some ocean forest, hoping they'll do something in a few days. I just don't wanna accept my loss yet lol.

Does CKS stand for crop king seeds???? If so you may wanna go to the seed and strainreview section and read any of the crop king threads.

Nature doesn't supply as tents, lights and all the other gear we utilise to grow either.
About to leave for work, but I dropped my beans in a small glass of water. I'll check them when I get home from work. If they're cracked they're going straight into my jiffy pots. It's getting it to, and past the seedling stage that scares me, once that's done, I've got the rest under control.

Thanks! I'm gonna spend some time reading up after work tonight.

For U the shot glass method , is the go, U can even leave em there for 3 days & wait for tap root to emerge , then into soil , good luck

I just slap mine in a rockwool cube to start always. Usually germ about 90%+
Cube in a dome on a hot pad. No fancy foreplay. Always a sprout in 24-48hrs
Ph'd down soaked cube of course.

Leave them in the shot glass for 3 days? That seems like a long time to drown my seeds. I paid more than I really wanted to, so I would like to at least get a few sprouts.

Different strains will take longer to send out a tap root, & its easy to monitor , also if the seed is old the shell is harder , so it will take longer, but most will show a tap root in 48 hours , besides , its better than a towel drying out

Plant the seeds in soil. Let nature work FOR you. Ive nevr used the jiffy products but plenty of peeps seem to lke them.
Personally I think the paper towel method requires more work. I don't want to have to check in on seeds every few hours because I'm kind of lazy.

That's true. But isn't the purpose of all those things designed to create an atmosphere that is as close to nature as possible? Paper towels are hardly a replacement for good soil.

Quite true M.F & my point is that 1000 years ago when they naturally dropped seed & waited till the next rains , would U expect to see them germ in a puddle ??
All i know is the shotglass method works 4 me

I've already stated my dislike for using paper towels as there's always a risk of damaging the root if it sticks to the towel. But I always soak for 24 hours just to soften the shell, I've found they usually pop there heads out the soil a few days earlier than if they hadn't been.

Hope that makes sense. Just started on some green crack I've plucked off as a tester bud and I'm pretty baked.

It makes perfect sense. I wasn't busting your chops brother - I understand different methods work for different people. I was just making a point. Personally I use rapid rooters.
