First time growing - advice please?

Hi, I have about 10 plants in a greenhouse outside. They are in good soil, watered daily.
I don't know the variety of seeds as some were given as gifts, and one plant was also a gift. (so potential height unknown) They are all growing really well into strong plants, but the largest looks as if it needs to start budding. It's about 1 ft tall and very bushy.
If I leave the plants in the greenhouse will they bud? Or do I need to intervene now by way of lighting.
Any advice much appreciated - thank you!

not sure what your asking..

I'll answer you with this: The only way to get a plant to start flowering.. is by switching the lighting schedule from 18/6 or whatever schedule you used during veg cycle.. over to a flowering schedule.. meaning 12/12 (12 hours or less of light). 12/12 or less will induce/trigger the plants flowering hormones.. which of course, will trigger the plant to start its flowering cycle.

So again, cannabis generally will not start actually flowering until its had 12/12 lighting for a good week to three weeks. Generally.. the longer you veg your plants.. the less time the plant will take to start actually flowering (show sex).

Hopefully this helped you out some..

peace.

great, thanks for your advice - so at least I've not harmed them by leaving in the greenhouse for so long.

what kind of lighting would you recommend?

Sorry, I should have explained better. My plants have been outside in the greenhouse with only natural light and dark. Is it time to bring them in under lights for the 12/12 cycle, or will they still bud if left outside in the greenhouse with the natural day light and night light?

If I need to do the 12/12 cycle, can you advise me about the best lighting? ie: type of light and power needed. The plants are in good soil only.

Yes if you can , get them out in the sun now. In flowering the plants need more energy to produce solid/large buds. Make sure theyre all fem, repot if needed and start flowering nutes.

As long as the plant is getting more than 12 hours of light a day they will not bloom unless they are an "autoflower" variety. This means they will not bloom naturally outside until the fall season when there are less hours of light than during the summer. You can always force flowering outside early by turning a large cardboard box upside down and covering the plant for 12 hours a day. If your indoor space is limited I would go ahead and move it since you never know how large the plant will get once it is flowered.

Hi Rolin,

Thank you, that is excellent advice - since I don't know the variety of all the plants, some are mainly sativa and some are mixed sativa/indiga I don't know if they are auto flowering or not...

Will it hurt the smaller of the plants to start with a light/dark cycle at the same time as the largest?

Thanks again!

You and Guru are off. A mature plant depending on strain will begin to flower somewhere in the 14-16 hr range. I have never seen a plant wear a watch. 12/12 is just what works out best for indoor growers. Do not mistake what we do inside with what happens outdoors in nature...........
Following the 12/12 theory outdoor plants would not begin to flower until around September 20-21.(northern hemisphere) Hope they finish fast........

Thank you cowboylogic, I do want to keep my plants outside , so to know that they will flower naturally is good news. Would you suggest that I let nature just take it's course and keep them in the greenhouse outside?

They will not flower until fall in the greenhouse. Just move them into a darkroom 12 hrs a day then back in the greenhouse for 12 hrs if you want to flower sooner than fall. Or make some sort of tent or cover to give them the needed dark period right in the greenhouse.....

excellent advise - exactly what I wanted to know; thank you.
Another question, at what point do the buds need harvesting? I don't know how quickly buds become flowers... I wouldn't want that to happen, would I?
