First time growing, light question

Hello everybody,
i will be starting my first grow within the next couple of weeks.
I will be starting out with a 6 site aeroponics system inside a 3 x 3 x 8 grow tent.
What light/lights do you guys recommend for my situation?

if you've got the cash then definately. if not cfl's can still grow a decent plant

I recommend a light that will produce enough lumens, is in the proper light range (blue to red), has an external ballast, and will not generate too much heat.

Since you are a beginner you'll be making some mistakes and most likely you will not have the best and most optimal conditions (nothing personal, it takes time). My advice is to buy something on the cheaper (cost, not quality) side. Afterall, there is no sense in using an expensive name-brand light when you will most likely run into problems that will keep you from maintaining optimal conditions.

Personally in a tent that size, I would be using a 600 hps with a cool tube. To light that area effectively using cfls, you are gonna need a shit load of cfls. Keep it simple, Hps with a dual spectrum bulb.

thanks for the quick responses. Money is somewhat of an issue at the moment but I dont really want to skimp on the lighting. Is 600w HPS a must or can I get by with 400w? Also where is the cheapest place to buy them?

hunt about online for prices. The price difference between the 400 and 600 is so small there really is no point in skimping on your lighting. To light the space you have most effectively, go with the 600 with a dual spectrum bulb.
