tl;dr: have newly germinated plants grown in late august can i do anything with these? i also need advice on materials/techniques on how to grow outdoors for the first time

i live in upstate new york. about a week ago i got the idea of growing and decided to plant some seeds to see what would happen. i planted about 15 bag seeds without really knowing what i was doing. i put some in the woods and some near this wall near my house. i put about three seeds in each hole and buried them about an inch deep. it rained for about two days and now its been sunny and about 70 degrees out. in the woods i have one seed that germinated, and near the wall i have two but they're in the same hole. neither spots get alot of sunlight. is there anything i can do with these plants? i also wanted advice on how to grow outdoors for the first time. i plan on getting about 50 to 100 bag seeds [preferably good bud] and growing them next year. i have a few spots that would be ok for growing. my best spot is a wierd man made area near a shopping area. it is a big drainage area with a mound in the middle that has alot of vegetation that is able to hide plants. im positive no one will go down there. the soil is decent and it will probably get a decent amount of sunlight. what i need to know is basic information on supplies and how to make the plants grow as healthily as possible. i can get miracle grow organic soil for a price that i can afford. what are some other things i can get at a store like lowes or walmart? they have plant food for vegetables and things like that also. ive read some basic things about growing but can use any advice. sorry about the long post

Hello, and welcome to RIU. Growing outdoors this late in the season probably won't work out. It usually takes about 8-10 weeks for a plant to fully flower, and I'm not sure when your first frost is, but the plant has to be at least mostly ready before that frost hits. Your best bet will be to look into an indoor setup. Unfortunately, that is really the most I can say without wearing the keyboard out. You would need to look into lights, what kinda of medium are you going to use (soil or hydro) and what kind of nutes are you going to use (organic or chemical.) Luckily RIU has a great wealth of information on all aspects of growing, from germinating to smoking. The best thing to do would probably start out with a book, and just start lurking around the forum. There is no one "right" way to grow this stuff- there are many different ways for countless different situations. You just need to find something that will work with your budget and available grow space. Best of luck!

i need advice on how to grow outdoors next year. this year was more of an experiment. can you explain the basics of what i should do to grow outdoors? how should i grow the plants, should i put them into pots and lets them grow for a few weeks and then transplant them, or should i just them in the ground from the start?

Either way works good- for mine I grew them inside hydroponically in rockwool for a few months and then planted them outside. You will need to get an idea of what kind of soil you are working with, and there are soil test kits in the garden section of larger hardware stores (lowes, home depot, etc) After you have determined what nutes the soil does or doesn't have, you can start adding organics to the soil to bring the nutes up, or chemical ferts if you prefer working with those. It is best to prepare the soil at least a month ahead of time so you have the ability to make adjustments to the soil if you need to. Soil pH is something you will need to know, and lime can be used to raise it, magnesium sulphate can be used to lower it. I threw in some Soil Moist since I can only check on my ones outside every 2 weeks or so. Pests (including deer) will be a pretty big concern, but there are plenty of pest control options at those same stores I mentioned earlier, but when it comes time to get your nutes, go ahead and go the hydro shop since they will have the stuff made specifically for our kinda plants. Security is another option, and there are plenty of ideas out there for that, mostly just find some place people don't go either because of it's inaccessibility or because it's just a pain to get there.

If the plants are healthy when you put them out, they will more or less stay healthy unless a pest problem comes up; you will just want to keep and eye on them and if they don't look green and healthy, post some pics on the forum and within an hour you will have a pretty good idea of what to do. For pest control I use Organocide, which is a pesticide and fungicide rolled up into on, and for nutes I use General Hydroponics mixed at half strength. There are predatory insects (ladybugs, praying mantis, etc) that will stand guard over your ladies, but in reality the plant you are wanting to grow is a weed with fewer natural predators than most outdoor plants have to worry about it- if you give it sunshine and water, you will rarely be disappointed.

Though i'd advise against any MG i know what it's like when that all you can afford. Honestly there is better soil in walmart tho. Scotts makes this shit called hyponex, it's soil similar to MG but is sterilized so it doesnt contain some of the bullsht that MG does. That mixed with 25% native soil is a good start for a plant bed. But since its sterilized youll need to add your own ferts, the stuff u can find at walmart will be fine. Starting in pots outdoors just makes your crop more manageable, like easier to move etc.. but putting them in a bed with your premixed soil will def work since youre talking about numbers 50-100. a few will be lost but the survivors will be strong vicosious plants. your two plants that are popping up together in the same spot, i've tried it and pulled both before flower. the stems were actually twisting together, they only got to about ten iches while the others were nearly two feet so by then it was just a waste of space. good luck either way. keep searching keep reading. much can be learned through searching. peace.

Planting straight into the ground would probably work best. If you can get them past the seedling stage at home first then take them to the spot that would work best. If not, you will just want to plant a few more seeds outside (too accommidate for potentially lost plants) and make sure you have them fenced up to keep the forest critters from munching on them.

def place it in a pot first probably big enough that can support till flowering and u can manage to grow it outdoors while having the ability to moved it around and check which area would make your plant happier. i diddnt have much luck planting it directly in soil without the pots for some reason like i said you wont be able to moved it if there are animals harrasing ur plants birds for instance. you dont want other people either to jack your hard earned work as well. if its going to be ur 1st time planting i would also suggest to only use slow release fertilizer like osmocote plus so you dont have to worry for over feeding or other related issues. secondly when its rainy season just happens that my plants loved it even though i check the water is acidic. i mix bat guano and worm casting as well on top of the soil i used. and you can easily place it somewhere else if you see cops around your area. dang i wouldnt suggest that you plant 50-100 seeds you would probably need a lot of help with that and a lot of money to get you where you want.
