First Time growing SATIVAS -- A little guideance?

Hello everyone!
(and to those of you who are American, hope your Thanksgiving's were all swell with lots of good food! )

I wasn't quite sure exactly where to post this as it is just of a general nature.
This is my first time growing near pure sativa's(over 80%). This is an indoor grow, growing in a 4ft x 4ft x 6.5ft grow tent, with up too 1000watts of HPS lighting available (one 400w, one 600w). I have soil and DWC growing methods available to me.

I am growing Thai Haze x Skunk#1(Seedsman), Columbian Red Haze(seedsman), as well as Sugar Haze (Seedsman). All are in 1 gallon pots as of now and all about a foot high, with the exception of one Thai is about 1.5ft. Hoping to find a nice mother of each strain for keepers.

But what Im really pondering is exactly WHEN to flower the future clones when the time comes? A foot high? 2ft high? I realize that Sativa's STRETCH during flowering, but how much do they really GROW (vegetative, flower material)? While I do not expect a massive yield like ive seen with my previous indica dominant grows, at the same time i do not want to wait 16 weeks of flowering for a few grams neither. I have tried researching the particular strains I am growing but not much useful information can be extracted. It seems these strains are unpopular due to flowering time.

Can any SATIVA growers or lovers give me any idea on what to expect, or when to flower for the best ratio of yield/height? Perhaps experience with these strains, or suggestions on great sativa strains?

I just finished a grow of Armageddon from Homegrown Fantaseeds that is supposed to be 75% sativa. I vegged them for 3 weeks
then FIM'd two of them when they were 15-18". After 2 more weeks vegging they were around 30". At harvest the plants were from 40-48"
and produced 2 ounces dried bud per plant. That was my second tour with the Armageddon and I love it!

I have actually smoked that stuff -- excellent smoke! And i was thinking of perhaps topping as well to hell fill out the horizontal space rather than vertical. Perhaps using the same light/growth schedule as indicas will suffice.

Its America we always have good food.

Thai plants are known for being HUGE, 16ft+ if you know what you are doing. I was told back in the day that Sativas like soil better than hydro, IDK

LST, top and supercrop to keep that bitch below 10ft which in a 6ft tent is kinda hard.

Well if you find your mothers you will have the opportunity to play around some with veg time/grow style. See what works best for each strain. I would flower some clones shortly after they root and work from there. Less of a chance getting caught with your bloomers down.

I have seen sativas triple to quadruple in height in flowering. a plant vegged to 1ft will end up 3-4ft after all is said and done..

Best way to grow Sativas IMHO is from clones in a SOG in soil (1 gallon grow bags so you can pack them close together). Let the clones veg a week or two and start. 12/12.

Yeah i just found a grow of someone who grew the same Thai strain, its like 8 ft high, he got just the one plant and it fills the whole room! It flowering for like half a year or something crazy. wow I could have some trouble controlling these! topping might be the way to go for sure!

And I plan to try American food of all varieties when I go to Cali in may!

I don't know if were just high or what, but me and my girlfriend found this expression amusingly hilarious for whatever odd reason, haha!

and thanks for the advice i guess of i take a few successful clones i can have a control grow so find out what will work for me. Im really hoping for a vigorous male Sativa to clone to make seed stock which i imagine presents its own challenges being long flowering plants.

Well I had an idea to make like a 12 site(3 to 4 inch net pots) DWC in a large rubbermiad tub of some sorts, vegging the clones for max 1-2 weeks but i figured the roots would get too tangled and what not, especially as sensitive as Sativas are. Looking at the growth characteristics of both CRH and Thai Haze with the branching ScROG may even be possible.

It was meant to get a chuckle and seems the we are all in agreement. Flower them young to start and work up from there. Dont wanna get caught with those bloomers around the ankles.

I've not found them a problem, I'm quite rough with my plants during transplanting, ripping tangled masses apart etc.
Cinderella 99 is an excellent scrog candidate or crosses of it.

When you go to Cali make sure you eat a burrito there the best
