First Time -- Little Cheese Auto (CFLs)

Hey everyone,

This is my first time doing this -- so any suggestions would be great.

I germinated two feminized Little Cheese autos from Barney's Farm (the root sprouted in about two days).

Now they're sitting in my homemade growbox (pics attached).

I think I planted the germinated seeds a bit too deep -- maybe an inch, so I hope they still pop up!

I'm running 2x 6500k 42W CFLs and 2x 2700k 23W CFLs in the pictured (cheap) ballast from home depot.

I'm using organic potting soil with perlite.

My temps seem to be right around 85-90 degrees, and humidity around 27% (does anyone know how I can bring this to around 45%? Or is around 30 decent?)

I'm not sure if I'll leave them in the box or if I'll bring them outside -- I'm going to see how they do, how high they get etc,,,

looks good,box is small especially for 2 babies. Otherwise looks good. remember not to give them any nutes for at least a couple weeks and water only when the soil feels dry about one knuckle down

box is a bit small even for an autoflower your defo going to have to make something bigger or finish them outside i wouldnt worry about humidity now you will only need to lower it later for flower good luck with your op

Yeah I was thinking I might finish them outside once they get some resilience built up; I tend to have quite a few rabbits in the backyard around this time of year that might be a threat them if they're babies...

The dimensions are about 16" by 16" and 2 feet tall -- we'll see how long it takes them to outgrow that -- perhaps this space would be better for just one plant? I can put one outside and leave one inside I guess.

With the light cycle -- I was told to leave it at 20/4 for the whole thing, since they'll flower in any light, but I was thinking about trying 18/6 -- because this thing is pretty bright, and in the same room that I sleep in (I rent a single bedroom -- so space is limited). But is 12/12 better? -- Will that simply push them to flower even earlier and make them smaller, and better for my purposes?

that space would be better for one, when putting them outside you could always put some wire up to stop little pests from getting them, ive done my auto's on 18/6 but its all about personal preference i wouldnt put them on 12/12 though unless they dont flower therefore not being a true autoflower this can be a problem

Thanks for the helpful info -- I think I'm going to try and put 1 outside anyway then!

I hope I've been giving them the proper amount of water -- I pour maybe a shot glass of water in, then wait til it dries out completely and put another in. It seems to get dry fairly quickly in there, but I hope I'm not overwatering at all.,... What do you suggest?

After going into the ground on May 1st, here they are three days later...

The first one sprouted really quickly, reaching for the light, and the second began peeking her head up not too long ago.

I've been dampening the soil with a small shot of water maybe twice a day -- maybe ten hours after the first watering. The soil seems to dry out very quickly and I'm concerned about overwatering/underwatering?

Can anyone give me a good way to measure this? I've just been looking at the dryness of the soil -- once it gets dry and crumbly (usually around 10-15 hours after a watering) -- i then give them another shot of water (about a shot glass equivalent).

i would suggest watering all of the soil in the pot. eventually the roots will reach the outside and you dont want to have any dry pockets under the soil cause that can cause slight problems as the plants start to get bigger.

I had read something like that in another thread the other day -- totally makes sense to make those roots reach for the water at the outsides of the pot! A nice even sprinkle over the whole thing should be okay then, maybe once a day?

Hey all,

Here they are at day 10. I've been watering them once a day, and have introduced Liquid Karma by Botanicare (day 9) (around half a cap/1.5L).

I'll throw some Vegetative formula into the mix at day 14. Any suggestions?

Does it look like I'm over/underwatering?

I'm thinking the curling of leaves might be due to having my lights too close to the plants (around 2 inches away), or maybe the positioning of my fan -- blowing nearly directly at the one... I'm going to change this around and see what happens.

i think the burn is from the nutrients. too young in my opinion to be feeding. the seed itself has food to last a little bit. let it grow a little and youll notice the discoloring will go away

Hey guys,

Reporting in early at day 17!

I am experimenting with the low stress training method and gently stretched them to edges of the pots with some dental floss and plastic knives as stakes, I'm thinking about leaving it like this for a couple days or so, then taking the stakes out, letting the original top reach up a bit, then tie more down..

Also -- leaves seem to be curling a bit, is this a sign that maybe my CFLs are too close? I lifted them a notch, but until now they've been ~1 inch from the tops of the plants.

Here's an update for day 19 -- notice the curl and droop, especially on the one plant.. Any cause for concern here? What's it from?

That curling may be from under/overwatering, or your lights are too far away. They shoudl be about 2inches away.
