First Time Small Soil Op With Options - insight appreciated!

Hey Guys,

Been finding some great info on this site, could really use some insight on this "problem."

Currently have a closet about 2 ft wide and 8 foot long- Going to use this as a veg room - six plants from clones (almost teens)

I have the option of using one hydrofarm 400watt (already in my possession) or buying two 8 bulb t5 for vegging. Someone has told me the 400 watt will not work in this space because it's footprint is too small. Is this true even if i rotate the plants once every day or so?

Will be flowering in a 4x4 tent with 600watt.

...varying in strains

This is very similar to the 400watt I'm referring to....http://www.shopping.com/Hydrofarm-Hydrofarm-400watt-Daystar-System-with-Agrosun-Halide-Bulb/info?sb=1

You got some bogus info. A 400W bulb in any kind of reflector will more than handle vegging in that space.
The experts say a 1000W light will cover a 8 x 8 space, so you are in good shape with the 400W'er in yours.

HINT -- I have a perpetual grow going and found that I need a veg space 25-50% as big as my flowering space.

Thanks for the advice, however I know have two T5 8 bulbs to veg six plants in the space. Does this seem like overkill? Should I have stayed with the 400w?

I would definitley go with t5's in that space just because of the length. A 400w would be okay for the sq.ft but optimally a square floorspace. With your room, the ending 2' on each end will be lacking intensity.

I would have just done 2 4ft, 4 bulb fixtures, though. On adjustable cords and keep them close to the plants....IMO
