First time using smart pots

Today im going to be using a 15L (3gal) smart pot for the first time, up untill now i have been using plastic pots.

I have a Ice Kush from advanced seeds that i germ'd 10 days ago in soil a small plastic pot. When i transplant into the smart pot how much do i water.? Do i water the whole pot or say a liter of distiled water(no nutes) 6inches around the seedling.?

I use smart pots regularly and when i transplant i water the entire pot. But dont water again till the pots feel light or soil is pretty dry. They dry out faster than regular pots so watch closely.

If it is a seedling like pictured, then damp soil with a light watering around the plant. It is susceptible to damping off/ stem rot if your substrate is too wet for the plant to utilize in a timely manner

Honestly I would grow in your current pot for another week or two, then transplant. IMO it is too young and fragile to transplant unless you are very gentle.

I agree - wait a bit before you transplant- a couple more leaf sets for that size pot before you transplant would make the transition easier.
Smart pots are awesome. I use 3's and 5's (U.S. Gallon) in the veg room and 15's in the flower. They really do grow healthier plants. They take a bit to get familiar with, but once they are established they love it.

i don't transplant, until it looks like it has outgrown the pot.


AND, DON"T USE DISTILLED WATER. unless you supplement cal/mag, but I just wouldn't use it. it is not the best for gardening.

Must have ions for good ionic exchange. If you have to use bottled water id go with spring water.

Ya thats too little to worry bout transplanting. As far as smartpots go we've been walking that dog on another thread here. Some interesting takes on the whole concept.

I recently went back to plastic pots over the clothe bags. I had to many issues with drying too much! I am still using one 10 gallon smart pot but went to 18 gallon plastic tubs. They need water once a week instead of every other day.

FYI: I have bad memory issues and had been forgetting to water. This fixed my issues.
