Next time run cold water in your sink and place the pressure cooker under the stream of cold water. Give it about 5 minutes and then take the regulator cap off. There won't be any steam and you can take the lid off immediately. I've been using pressure cookers for many years. ;)

what are you doing with the cooker?

yesterday i was cooking with mine and it was at full pressure, 15pps and i took it off the stove and put it under cold water and a big whistle came out. i've had it happen once before but i shoul dhave waited a few seconds before putting it under water or perhaps used the quick release for a few seconds, id on't know.

has anyone else heard a whistle? i have a wmf.

I always let mine cool down before I open. It's not like you can do anything with the jars when they're that hot. Running a slow stream of cool water works if you're in a hurry. But I wouldn't take the jiggler off while it's still pressurized.

whats a jiggler? mine has 3 ways to cool. natural, the button on the side of the handle (for quick release), and you can run it under cold water. you CAN'T remove the top while there is pressure in the cooker. It's stuck shut until the pressure is down. if you opened it while the pressure was up, you could get really hurt because the top could fly off and you would get burnt by steam. Never open the cooker unless the pressure indicator shows that there is no pressure inside!!

The weight that sits on top that jiggles as it releases steam when the cooker gets up to pressure.
mine doesnt have that. it makes a hiss when it's getting up to pressure and then there is a ring that pushes up and there are 2 lines, one is 10 pps and the 2nd is 15pps.

mine is almost silent except the hiss. never seen a jiggler lol.
