First Timer And Of Course, A Yellowing Leaf Problem On A New Clone

Hi gang-

Just picked up a Afghan Kush clone 2 days ago for my first grow and am having a problem with some really fast developing yellowing.

Here's the particulars:
3 gallon Aeropot
3 23W 5000K 1600 lumen CFLs
1 26W 2700K 1750 lumen CFL
Fox Farm Ocean soil
Temps around 73 degrees F at the stem

Transplanted the clone from Solo cup to soil. pH'd tap water and it "looks" to be around 7.0 and added 8 cups to soil. Dumped the water that came out the bottom and let it sit in the dark for 10 hours before turning on the lights.

Checked the girl this morning to find a large area of brown on one of my leaves. It wasn't there 12 hours prior. Have also noticed some of the leaves curling under.

Taking another water pH test and I'm kind of on the fence on how you read these things. Holding the vial up and looking through without anything behind it, it looks light green (6.5 - 7.0). Put your hand behind it and it's definitely darker. I have no idea exactly "how" you're supposed to look at this thing. So, my pH might be pretty high. Or not. Grrrrr....

I have NOT watered/nute'd ANYTHING since the original transplant took place.

put a white surface behind it, helps a lot.

FF soil has a high ph out of the bag it also has a whole lota nutes in it.. you cant use and FF product full strenth youve got to dilute it with per-lite, sand crapy dirt from outside whatever... its nute lock/burn sux man idk why the word on FF products isnt out there but.. you see it alot with ppl who use FF at 100%

i have to disagree about the FFOF, i've used it on about 10~ strain seeds, bunch of clones... never burnt anything.

you can't use newts for the first month, after that you can go all out. that's the only catch.

Also I'd just kinda chill, you just transplanted, and if you watered thoroughly you wont have to water again for at least a week. just monitor it, it'll get better. promise.

I'm gonna quote you on the "get better" promise! I am going to invest in a soil pH meter and lower the acidity in my water a bit to make it a little bit more "yellow" than "dark green" on the pH scale. And wait. Which is, perhaps, the hardest part. As an aside, I'm totally blown away how fast your comments came back. What a community!

Your plants look very healthy to me. The dead patches are so well-defined that i think they are burns. The one on the margin looks like heat (from a bulb I'm guessing) and the spotties look like something chemically "hot" got splashed on them ... maybe even before you got the clones. I would not worry. cn

Actually, the "burns" just showed up. They weren't on the clone when I picked it up or the day after. Could it take a few days for burns to show up if they were hit with a light or splashed by nutes?

Yes, pinpoint nute burn can take 1 to 3 days to show up. cn

Sp if your plants leaves are yellow on the tips that means theres to much water or to much nutrients?

i will back jake too ...... just wait it out ..... she is fine , i also think it looks like a chem burn of some sort , but thats in the past , just dont even mess with the ph , its a waste of time. you can get the most expensive meter on the market and not only is it not gonna help you , you cant alter the ph of your soil without time. so completely forget about ph right now an worry bout your girl an the dirt she lives in.

SOON as the water starts dryin up from that first good watering she will start to explode. no need in ph ing the water/food either. just more chems your girl dont need.

like i said i dont know what happened , but she is healthy now an thats all that matters.
