First Timer, Perpetual, 600 watt dirt

So, ive been feeding the flowering ladies 2-4 days apart.. I failed, and let one of my ladies go a bit too long without water..

BUT, topped her off, and the next day she perked back up. she still a bit yellow though..

and my PK<! so, i found some damn balls in my soil, they are new to my eyes. i sliced them open to find nothing..

i found them in the upper soil of my pk plant, i see no bugs in there what so ever.. wtf. did some research, looks like larvae of some gnats. i dont know for sure though..

i read this somewhere on here...
"take a potato any type will work, cut in half and put cut side down on the soil
12 hours later look at cut side with a scope and see what bugs you have first
if you have small worms with black head = fungus gnats. get some BT! (gnatrol) water in as directed.

if you have little might/aphid looking bugs, then you have Root aphids. and need to go to war.
aphids suck and there are a lot of things people are trying some work some dont, most work for a little while but they tend to keep coming back.
it depends on you if you want to go chemi or organic. but organic is very difficult with RAs, the key is rotating treatments. (imid) merit 75 or bayer citrius works great, but is systemic up to 50 days i heard.
"

gonna try this out asap, hoping the potatoes and alcohol kill them out, we'll see..

any help out there in the RIU world? jeeez, wish i had some helpful followers :[

you can use safer soap. Do you wait till the buckets dry to water? On gnats I just used Dawn soapy water. It worked for me

Since ive never done this before, I've been watering my plants according to the weight of my buckets, i got a good idea of what a dry one feels like now. I would wait till the buckets got pretty light, then soak them with water till it runs off. Recently i let the Flowering BCZ get a little too dry, and came back to a thirsty plant, that was scary, made me re think of waiting so long between waterings.. IM going to try and keep a log of how much water im actually giving them. (eventually, hopefully very soon).... I have done the soap in my spray, which has worked really well on the leaves, next watering, i'll put a little soap in the water. You have a good safe ratio i should use? I get the water just soapy enough in my spray bottle to where its not over bubbly, but consistently bubbly..

Decided to throw up pics of all the ladies tonight, (minus 8 being cloned, but those are boring a the moment, hopefully some nice roots begin to show in a few days) here they allll are.

BCZ in flower: 20 days
Pk in flower 14 days (vegged a month, then flowered, also got as clone)

PK mother: 46 days ( got as clone) after cloning off of her, she looked funky, i let her recover a few days, then i trained her up! loveee it, shes gonna fill in nice now.
4 BCZ clones in 1 gal pots : 4 days since transplanted from party cups ( cloned/rooted, and were in party cups for 2 weeks.) -I plan on taking clones off these things eventually, so im gonna keep them all in veg mode, they seem to be turning out healthier than the mother, (for the most part)

Clones in party cups up top: the taller clone was taken with my 4 other ones in the 1 gal pots, but her roots were a bit slow on the sprouting, so im letting her take her sweeeet ass time up there, but roots are hitting the sides of the cup now! as for the other small clones, they were put in a few days ago, looks like the majority of them gonna fight on through! once these babies start shooting new growth, 12/12 they go!

Update. So. The buddy I got my purple kush clones from says not to fear the balls, they are part of the nutes in his soilI don't like seeing any balls what so ever near my ladies! !!!I found this information put literally 20 minutes after putting some lightly soaped water into all my soil containers, tried to evenly coat the tops of dirt. I figure this should be a good step towards preventing critters at the least :p Good news is, I was wrong about it being gnats. Yeyyyy

OK, so ive never given my babies a healthy eating situation. io was over feeding them wayyy too much at first, then i backed off a bit, then i completely backed off. its been some daysss now. just been flushing with regular water every time....

SO! i have used a %25 feeding schedule off my "all in one nutes" combo... starting to feel out the n.p.k. stuff!

SO, im hoping they all find the food tasty, gonna water them with reg water the next week, and lighlty dose them up again in about 7-10 days.

I was gifted the connoisseur food from the local hydro shop for free.. These babies are expensive, and supposedly work really well.. once I sort of figure out what ive gotten myself into, im gonna be giving my flowers this fine cuisine... hopefully within next few cycles!!

here we goo, i had some fun with my little baby clones up top, figured i'd top the hell out of 2 of the best looking ones i had, the other ones are rooting up inside the cup pretty well, 12/12 awaits, would like to see them a bit healthier before they make my fruit..

im liking the color of of my 4 bcz in veg!! the stalks and new growth, and overall fill in is starting to turn green! yeyyyyy. i plan on getting them as normally healthy as possible, thenn im gonna clone off the bottom of them, and throw them into 12/12 soon after.. wont be doing this till my other clones in the other cloner root..

as for my babies in the cloner, ughh, its so rough not seeing roots for one week now.. i believe my last attempt, i saw 5/6 rooted after 7 days.. SOOO, im thining my cuttings looked so nice and healthy, maybe i should have picked some thinner smaller ones.. I think my cloner chamber should be ideal, the one thing i have not done in the chamber, is bring fresh air in, or out.. I have my cloner chamber in a cupboard lined with reflective bubble wrap insulation, the temps in there are 73-80 (air) and my rez is about 73-75, and humidity as well high enough... air can seep in through the cracks and what not, its not like i have a fully sealed chamber, does anyone thing i should add some movement in there? I was thinking a small computer fan pulling air from a nearby crack to shoot the circulation across chamber could potentially help??? grrr... thanks for stopping by!!

yey for flowers!! my bcz is starting to lean towards a blue dream smell i feels like, my pk is still beautifully developing. other than that, they grooooooowing

here we are so far..

my damn roots are finally showing, 4 outta 8!! fucken 2 weeks or so, BUT, i think i have a better idea of what to do next time.
From this clone run,i learned first hand that shaving the roots bottom half inch, helps get them going faster. My 4 i did not shave, but just simply did a 45 deg cut still trying to bust.
SO ideas for next clone run:
-install small fan to get air movemnet in clone area
-take cuttings no longer than 6 inches. and also no wider than a few mm
-shave bottom half to full inch of stems, also may try splitting half on top of it to see what up..
but overall happy again! some room for improvements though, but the little babies sre thick! i really like how much start they have over my other clones, hope they keep rooting and handle the new life well..

i played with my camera lighting, and got some cool blues to come out, would be scary, but awesome to smoke something this mutant blue out. cheers!

Here is a quick photo update, sorry for the terrible pictures, the drunk i dgaf goggles were on :p

So here we are, my pk in flower now seems to being showing some signs of stress.. I have not given either plants nutrients in over 2 weeks. What are these huge spots on my leaves? a lot of yellowing seems to go on, are my plants screaming they need something to me? the buds look sooo nice on them, but the fan leaves and bigger leaves look sick.

another possibility, bugs?
my 2 theories, bugs, or lack of nutes?

im guessing here, but im thinking its:

-phosphorus deficiency?
-potassium deficiency?
-sulfur deficiency?
-magnesium?
shit! all these symptoms have yellow leaves, ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

hope someone can send me an excellent link on this, or some help. grrr, one of these days ill figure these ladies out :p

i wish i wasnt using this dirt :[.. I have no way of controlling how much of what i want to give them. i need to figure out a better medium.

till next time, check in soon.

all feedback will be considered and appreciated!

is it just me? most of my pictures from this thread have vanished.. is it my browser? do other people see a lack of photos? damnnn.. too bad, well, i hope to put better and better pictures up along the way :]

looking good, although you may have a phosphurus def, blue hue on leaves, are the stems purple?

im beginning to really believe in this as phosphorus def.. the stems have become veryyyyyyyyyyyy purple, ive tried to find bugs, tried no ferts for a while now, anddd well, progression of the yellow, and then dead. dead spots, blahh yaa, and very deep purple stems,.. sooo, gonna try the remedies around here..

Hey man I feel your pain. I started growing last Feb. in dirt. I was able to bring in my first couple of crops but not without the nutriant level and PH issues throughout the end of bloom. Leave the dirt behind. I now grow in 100% pearlite or 50/50 pearlite and cocoa and my girls love me for it. I have not posted to my journal for a long time but some of my troubles and my progression to cocoa should be there. (Swampwaters Perpetual Grow - Newbie learnin the ropes)
good luck man.:peace:
