First-timer question on grow light

All,

I have my first seeds ordered and on their way.

At this point, its pretty much just an interest and test so I don't want to break the bank on an indoor grow that may not even work.

I have a small LED grow light I have ordered but my question is around an existing light I have and if it would even help at all if I used it.

I have attached a pic of an item really similar to my LED Ring Light I used for photography and website videos back in the day which I am no longer using.

Also the below is a high level summary of the light I am asking about..

Is this a light that would help with an indoor grow should I choose to use it rather than the unknown light I have coming in the mail?

LED SMD
NO ultraviolet and infrared light radiation, low heat output
Outer Diameter: 16 cm
Total Power: 8W
Color Temperature: 5500K
Total illumination: 3600LM
CRI (Color Rendering Index): >83

Thanks for your help!

That output is so low it's not useful but it won't cost you anything to run it so feel free.

Hi guys,

Thanks for the quick response.

I have done some reading but obviously still have no experience.

My apologies. I should have provided more info.

I work from home so my idea is to either to grow in my mancave closet with lights and a fan and/or suppliment daytime grow by putting them near the window in the room.

I want to use regular soil and I have read some simple first time steps are to use a solo cup or small planting pot.

I have ordered Cinex Feminized Seeds and as part to the package also include 3 autoflowering seeds.

I hope this provides more insight into what I am thinking of and thanks to you guys for your help!

A windowsill is not enough light. Just buy a real grow light. Even a 250W HPS will work great and then you can upgrade. BTW don't apologize, you're ok. We all began at the beginning. Allow me to tell you about the time I chopped all my females because I thought the flowers on the males were, well, flowers LOL and yes I did smoke some and no I didn't get high, just a headache.

Hi, ty very much for the follow up and confidence boost lol. It is truly nice to see an active forum with people willing to help.

I have a long way to go and I am quite certain I will probably trip up much more.

From what I have read a cheap initial setup is like $150 min which don't get me wrong, seems well within reason for this but with the uncertainty of everything going on right now (which could include my employment) some random idea but really interesting idea that randomly came up in my head doesn't make a ton of sense for even that small of a budget.

I am not sure how strict these forums are around linking items but if you have any suggestions/links on an affordable light you described, that would be a really big help.

So you're looking for a inexpensive start. The light you showed just won't work. You can get an 85watt or 105watt cfl spiral bulb for just over 20 buck and go to a local ranch or farm store and pick up a brooders lamp (used for raising chicks) they look like aluminum dome work light from days past. But they are rated for 250watt heat lamps and work well with high watt cfl's, cost is $15 or less. One will cover 2'x2' for 4'x4' you will a need couple if not 4.
