First Timer Small Problems Need Your Help

Firstly, hello all!

I'm a first time growing that doesn't smoke, I grow because two of my family members need medication and their alternatives are absolutely terrible.

I'm having a bit of an issue with my first time grow, I notice small problems but I've also noticed that these small problems stop healthy growth a bit and I'm wondering if someone a little more seasoned than me could help out.

Here's a little about my grow
  • 8 Ball Kush from Barney's Farm
  • Day 40 right now
  • They sprouted under sub-par conditions (standard fluro tube)
  • When they were 7 days old they were moved to CFL (6x24watt [124 equivilant])
  • They are in the secret jardin 3x3 with two 4" intakes and a 4" outtake at the top with carbon filter and blower
  • There is a stationary fan blowing 24/7
  • They are on 18/6

The problems I'm facing
  • I'm overly worried lol
  • Some stems are purple and the veins are purple as well
  • Some leaves are abnormal and deformed
  • There is a burnt look to some leaves
  • Some leafs show slight signs of nitrogen toxicity (claw)

I'm using a very low dose of GH Maxigrow
I'm using spring water from the grocery store
I do not have a great way to measure PH, only PH strips.

Any help would be amazing, I've attached pics.

All in all they look pretty good though :)

Your attachments don't work, for me anyway.

Get those working and you'll get some ideas, maybe.

OK. here goes
BURNT LOOK - Usually this is nutrient overfeed (nute burn),
It's probably the most common problem that first timers face/cause.

CAN YOU CHECK THE EC OF THE WATER/NUTRINTS YOU FEED THEM???
By what you say about measuring pH, I'm guessing 'NO'.
That's difficult....

BTW - NEED TO KNOW FAR MORE DETAILS.
What do you grow in?
Do you hand water or hydro system....?

Even a 'very low dose of GH Maxigrow' could cause burn if they're growing in soil with nutrients already there......

PURPLE STEMS/VEINS....
Normally low temps bring out 'purpling'
(unless it's a strain with genetics that promote naturally occurring purple?)

2 x 4" intakes and 1 x 4" extraction - attached to filter

Personally I never use IN-TAKES. Passive intake, powered by the negative pressure that is naturally created by the extraction fan, does the job fine.
So trying to grasp why you have TWO IN-LINE FANS is a puzzler, to me.
(and probably the cause of your low temps - if it is low temps that are causing purpling....?

HYGROMETER
pH PEN
EC PEN

Put one of your IN-LINES in storage (it'll stay OK and serve as a spare).

THIS IS ONLY THE OPINION OF MYSELF AND ANY CONSEQUENCES THAT OCCUR DUE TO THE FOLLOWING OF ANY SUCH OPINIONS ARE STRICTLY THE RESPONSIBILITY AND THE FAULT OF THE PERSON ATTEMPTING THEM.
YOUR HOME IS AT RISK OF MARTIANS IF SPACE ISN'T CONQUERED AND COLONISED WITHIN THE NEXT GENERATION.
CAUTION: CONTAINS HOT FLUID, POSSIBLE TRACES OF NUTS and EXPLICIT LYRICS.

Thanks for the quick reply.

I grow in cocogrow hand watered
The intakes are passive, I apologize for not mentioning that.
I'll definitely be picking up a PH pen tomorrow and I'll learn what EC is all about tonight.

yeah ph pen will help also when you water make sure a good amount of water runns through the pott also are you using the right nutes for the stage of growing that your in as far as the lights CFLS work great but you can pick up a 150 watt HID for cheap and it has better penetration through your canopy and bigger budds and with cfls you need to keep adjusting them or you will burn the precious sun leaves and budds what ever else is touching the lights whan you wake up in the morning. Good luck bro i hope u get some grade A budd FUCK PHARMACEUTICAL DRUGS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Temps are 23 celsius all day. Thanks for the tips :)
when genetics play a role in purple stems, it's only found on the top/upper half of the stem, not as a whole or on the bottom half. If the entire stem is purple, usually striping will occur on the terminal branch that produced the fan that has purple stem, and that is a magnesium deficiency. If it's due t cooler temps, then anthocaynnes ( not spelled correctly but it's a secondary pigment aside from chlorophyll) and shows purpling. Also worth noting that phosphorus deficiency can also make purple stems, however the leaves will show blue or purple hue blotches and eventually become necrotic and die.
