First timer with a few questions

Hello everyone
I'm new to growing and had a few questions if some of you guys had some time.

I'm currently building a closet grow room 5'x5'x8'. I didn't want to do anything fancy considering my budget. After research I've decided to go with the Ebb and Flow system. I'm building my own using a 20 gallon container for my solution and i'm either gonna try to find a 2'-3'x4' (not sure about depth, was thinking like 5-7'') plastic planter/tray or make one. I figure the setup shouldn't be no higher then 3' leaving about 5' for my plants to grow. The pump can be adjusted from 130-170 GPH (would putting an air pump in with a air stone help with oxygen?) For my lighting seedlings/vegitation I was going to use either a 2 tube or 4 tube floro fixture (is that a better tube to get then others?) For Flowering I have a 400w HPS w/50,000 lumens. I'm installing an intake and usually run my ac's fan (would that be ok for fresh air or should I make a fresh air return from my attic?) If I wanted to try to produce around 4-6 plants what would be the largest meshed pot I should use? For my medium I am gonna use hydroton clay pellets. I was thinking no more then 3 gallon ones. The nutes for my solution i'm still not sure about. I kinda wanted to try to find one I could use for the all the way through but it appears that is out of the question unless I use Mircleburn:hump: lol. Like I said this is my first time, from everything I read nutes can be tricky and theres so many lol. Any suggestions for something a tad on the begginer side? Oh yeah also gonna line my walls with mylar.

For my first grow I wanna try Purple Buddah that sounds yummy. Anybody ever grow it? If so, any tips? Hows the Yield?

Thanks for takin the time to read this guys any tips would be greatly appreciated. :joint:

Remember your space has to be capable to hide all light, for the DARK period of BLOOMING.
And remember to spray a good pesticide around the corners of the space, baseboard and walls, to prevent Spider Mites. I use HOMEGUARD from Lowes or Home Depot. The spider mites are miraculous about finding a wet damp dark place.

Those car deodorizers hung around your main entrances/exits may help mask "that smell" that you've grown accustomed to, but others might notice immediately. Anything to blend the smell.

Yeah I planned on grabbing a couple Ona Blocks, keep one by the intake and another by the door. My friend uses those and also puts a few cinnamon brooms around the house. Or make one of those carbon filters (from the link they have in the Odour sticky) Will the carbon filter take all odor out or like 95%? Plus would making a satalite dish type collar with mylar on it to cover the pots so light would be bouncing on the under side of the leaves be good? Thanks for the help

I use two FEBREEZE Air Filters, TWO LARGE IONIZERS and two CARBON FILTERS and a home made 5 gallon bucket carbon filter, and I can still smell mine behind closed doors.

Yikes, might have to use a few different things then. How about the nutes? I hear FoxFarms good for begginers. If so which products should I use for veg and flowering?

Thanks again for the tips!

Dude, give it some time before you just write everyone off. You posted this thread on a Friday which is typically a low-traffic day, and add to that the fact it was Halloween. If you want to trash your crop by using Miracle Grow then by all means go right ahead. We're all here to learn and share knowledge, but sometimes you have to have some patience. If you're too impatient to wait more than 24 hours for what you consider to be an adequate number of responses to your query, how do you expect to have the patience to grow weed? Seriously bro, smoke a bong and chill out. The answers you seek will come... you just might have to wait a little :-D

The object of deodorizing your entrances and exits (main) is for those pesky folks who have no biz w/ya, but knock on your door . . . like holy folks. Just a first line of security, well away from your grow. A whiff by a stranger outside your house, at your door, could bring heat.

As for MG, it's the singer, not the song.

I just unintentionally ruined a $20 Dutch BlueBerry seed, after 40+ years of growing . . . yet somehow didn't blame the peat plug, or the water, or the lighting.
I did it . . . and feel like there's been a death in the family (awful)

I was planning on setting up and Ebb and Flow system using the hydroton pellets as a growing medium. I was told that beginers should only grow with soil, and to forget using any kind of hydro setup, that stuff is for advanced growers. Whats yalls input? (yeah I said yall i'm from the south cant help it ;P) I dont have any first hand experience, but have been doing a lot of research (over 25gigs saved on my PC not including forums etc..)
I actually feel quite comfortable and confident in the Ebb and Flow method. Just a couple things like nutes and what not I was curious about. Do you guys think it would be better to do soil?

I personally believe that every new grower should first go through the process with soil before moving on to hydroponics. Soil is much easier to grow in, and is more forgiving than hydro. You can make a few mistakes with soil and have little or no problems. The same mistakes in a hydro setup could wipe out your entire crop. I'm not saying that first-time growers CAN'T successfully complete a hydroponic harvest. Many can and do. However, I think it's better to go through the process with soil first to learn the fundamentals of growing and give yourself a solid foundation from which to build upon.

IT IS LIKE LEARNING TO DRIVE A CAR, SO YOU CAN GO TO CALIFORNIA. And yu main goal is getting to California. What kind of car do you want to ride in and how fast do you want to get there? In a old pick up truck, or in a Corvette?
Because LEARNING is LEARNING. So learn to drive the Vette!
