Fish Tank Grow>> Pictures.

I had two little girls started in soil growing in the window. Decided to try DWC. Never done this before. Was yellowing before the transfer, so hoping this will help them grow better. Any tips, comments, advice would be appreciated. Thanks

poor little girls. They are stretched up a lot for light. Have you been feeding them any nutes, because the leaves look burnt all around the edges. are you using florescents? If so you can put them up to 2-4 inches away from your plants. Got a temperature in there, I'm kind of curious to see if that would heat up being in an aquarium like that.

Hmmm, should work...are there still fish in the aquarium? Because I have heard alot of good things about that...like growing weed with goldfish like people do water lillies and betta fish....

I'm using CFL's. No nutes so far, like I said they were just growing in the window. I was thinking of getting hydro nutes. I bought 6 fish for the project hoping to use them as natural fertilizer.

Silly kids leave the growing to us.

Nothing is dangerous about it. All fish tanks have lights on them... Obviously water and electricity don't mix, but they are well separated and everything is well grounded.

I will admit i'm not a grower, but i'm not a kid either

First off get rid of the foil it creates hot spots and Burns plants.(doesnt anyone research before they grow) second you're gonna have a ton of root problems if you don't get your roots out of the light. There's a reason we use black buckets. Come on people do research quit being lazy.

Is any light okay for them? I'd rather not have the fish in the dark completely.

Is Mylar better than foil then? I figured it would work as a cheap alternative.

Well.. either way mom is going to be mad at a kid or young adult. You have all your reservoir sides exposed to ambient and direct light you're growing algae not cannabis that is a fact.

fish OR hydro nutes... Please don't try both, for the fish's sake.

Why does everyone on these forums assume less knowledgeable people are kids?

you should block light to the water m8, i dont understand why you have all the things in the tank tho??

There's fish, rocks, airstones, a live plant and a heater in the water. I want the fish to act as the nutrients, but I think blocking all the light will kill the fish eventually...

People are just going with what they know and that is to keep light out of your reservoir or you will get algae...you said it was a fishtank, not that it had fish though. With fish you need the tank to take in light...and you can't use normal hydro nutes for fish...you could use fish safe fertilizer for aquarium plants, but honestly I think I would let the fish just take care of it...

Gastanker + missnu: Understood, no hyrdro-nutes. Think i will try the aquatic plant nutes though.

As for light getting into the tank. I'm not going to put additional light on the tank, just ambient from the plant lights.
Still curious though, is the light going to KILL the roots? or is it just less efficient?

Thanks for the help so far guys. Here's a better look at my roots/aquatic life. Keep in mind these were removed from soil yesterday.


The chunks are pieces of dirt remaining...

okay train of thought derailed there for a moment oh wait doing it again...

but seriously at least remove the tinfoil and you probably are gonna want to make SURE that you have lots of oxygen pumpin through that tank and have a way to circulate that water as well... and light generally is a BAD thing for roots... however that may be if the light is severely diffused and the roots dont get direct light then you can get away with it but in no way is still good for plants...

cannabis is not an algae nor is it a swamp plant and does NOT like to be siting in stagnant water for any long period of time without fresh oxygenated air to be circulated and have a fresh exchange to boot

So perhaps, lose the tinfoil, yet keep the top covered to prevent light from directly hitting the water/roots? Thoughts?

That was my thinking when I purchased him, but I guess I wasn't aware that algae was a big problem?? I've had a few different fish-only tanks and I know you have to keep up with the cleaning, but is algae growth going to affect my plants?
