hmmm... Fish stories...

Well, I was out fishing suckers because I was bored (probably 20 years ago now). I was using an ultralight w/ 4lb test and the fish were in the 2 to 5lb range. Anyway, I've been at it for a couple hours and was getting bored when all of a sudden it felt like I had hooked a friggin freight train.

So what do I see churning the water below me and then taking off over a short waterfall, snapping my line? A 4-5ft sturgeon... must've been a good 50-60lbs. Talk about a rush from loosing a fish! My reel sounded like a gnat buzzing in my ear.

On another note, the funnest catch was a 25lb salmon in a tributary to lake superior (I hate being in a boat... sunburn, etc). Medium-light rod, 8lb test.

Hahahha... I just remembered my cousin picking suckers out of the water by hand. He learned the hard way to make sure it's really a sucker as he sliced his hand open while grabbing a walleye.

Out of curiosity, is the meat in a 60+lb catfish any good? I'm trying to picture how I'd go about cleaning it...

Hunted the family farm in WV all morning. Had 4 gobblers gobbling when I got to the farm at 6. Called back and forth with 1 for 2hrs, he never came in. Got bored at 9 and moved spots. Moved to a point on a spoil pile in a long ass field and started having my snack. Not 10 minutes I saw 4 turkey crossing the field 300 yards away. Called to em, gobbler called back, but he wasn't about to leave his ladies for my lame ass call. Finished my snack and back across the field they came. I jumped off the spoil pile I was sitting on, It runs the length of the field with a road on the back side. Ran down the road to cut em off. Pulled some indian shit on em and crawled up the pile and peeked over the top through the high grass. Thought I had my spot right, but they veered off at 100yrds. Laid face down in the grass for 15 minutes waiting for em to get closer, no go. They weren't going to get any closer. Old gobbler started strutting and sticking his head out real far, that was when my patience ran out. Shot once, all of em took off flying. He broke from the group a little and I gave him 2 more. Knocked him out of the sky at 95 yards (and there was no pellets in the breast!). I'm having turkey tonight! Fist pick shows where I shot from, he was out by the tree in the middle right of the picture. The song birds were out in full force this morning too, even if you don't get what you go out for its always great just to get out and hear the world come alive.

damn a sturgeon , never caught 1, i have caught salmon though but not 25 lb ones.
Yup, good ol' fashion sturgeon. I did see a small one landed once (maybe 5-6lbs). It turned out the people were from out of town and didn't know what it was. They didn't want to touch it :)

Best part about watching them catch that was they tried to net it and it laid across the net rim. It didn't even bend a half inch. Then it got pissed off and went out swimming for another few minutes.

Yeah, nice bird and nice shot. My dad shot alot of trap but wasn't into hunting, so I have never been out. I was still young when he got out of it due to shell costs. Now the shells look cheap... you just can't afford to get to a club... damn gas!

Had the same problem at my house. Bow hunting is possible, or a .22 with CB shells (quieter than pellet gun) if you are a good shot (with in 20-30 yrds) a head shot should do. They hardly ever stop moving their heads though. Could have taken one this fall out of my bow stand in town, but not season yet.

Not warm enough to fish around here yet, but there are some pretty good crappie/cat/large mouth fishing sites around here.

One year I went down to the shitty pond, and caught 20 baby blue gills for bait. I spent about an hour lacing up the trot line to get down to the river, and go after the big cats. After about 5 hours of work, I heaved the trot line out with 20 blue gills..... I was so baked I forgot I had to tie/fix the other end of the line to something on the bank, and watched the line fly off into the water. I just left sad and discouraged, and I suppose I will try again this year.

We are getting ready for our yearly trout trip. With that said I'll tell you a story. this group of people have been going on this trip for about 14 years. Six of us guys grew up togather. most are married now. all these lakes around spokane wa. are stocked so the fishing is pretty good. One year we are fishing and my friends boys are 3 and 5 at the time and they are catching fish hand over fist. Every one else in the group are catching a few fish. But those two boys are firkin on fire. Keep in mind at this point I'm skunked so like any good fisherman I went over to these two boys and took there mickey mouse fishing poles. Oh did I say they were catching all these fish with mickey mouse fishing poles. And threw the pole as far out in the lake as I could. then in turn threw both of them in also. ok mabe I didn't throw them in but the thought crossed my mind. and I got a huge amount of shit for getting skunked by two itty bitty kids.
