Fishing

Seems like this winter has lasted an eternity and the ice doesn't get thick enough for ice fishing here. The only action I've had this year was from a 48" Muskie and he won the war.
Yup it seems long, we had a warm spell end of February that tricked us, it’s been a weird winter, real cold days but ice is thinner than usual. About 14” but we usually get 24

Big fan of bow fishing - my best is a 54 lb Grass Carp.
I'll see if I can find a pic.

I didn’t read the whole thread but where were you fishing for sailfish? @GreatwhiteNorth
I came to know another RIU member quite well and he hosted Mrs GWN and myself at one of his homes in Costa Rica for 2 weeks.
RIP Phillip.

Very cool. I used to go to Guatemala for sail fish, got a sailfish tattoo, long story lol. As for the guy in the water ...... buddy got a tip in his belly when it jumped toward the boat, nasty infection :(. I would love to see a 50 lb carp ;).

Caught a decent sized muskie today and I hooked three more. Unfortunately I hooked it in the gills and tore them up pretty bad. Normally I would have released this fish but even the game warden that came and checked on me said that it was going to die. The meat will be enjoyed. 2A745080-48B5-45B1-923A-B9B9C6B20FA9.jpeg

Nice, one fish I’ve never caught and I’m 10 miles from St. Lawrence river. May try this fall ;).

I didn’t realize they were good to eat but northern pike is one of my favourite fresh water fish so I guess not much different ;). They look tasty :). Anyone know how to make carp taste like pike? Now that would be nice lol. Start hunting them in 6 weeks. Checking the smelts tonight ;).

When I was young, my grandmother worked with a lady who would take all the carp we could catch. She said it was delicious if cleaned/cooked properly. Idk never got to try any of hers and we just threw them back except the few times she got them.
