I agree I've never really heard of that method. Besides the flavor drops that asienk mentioned theres additives that can be used during the flowering process (I'm using Humboldt Honey) and ways of doing it during curing (like putting an orange peel in a curing jar which makes it taste awful ).Plants don't bio accumulate any flavor that you add wont be tasted in the plant when finished. I use lemon juice as Ph down and it does not taste like lemon when harvested unless that lemon flavor is in the pheno of the plant.
