Floating SIP wetlands

I've got a massive swamp by my house. No one goes there, especially into the cattails. Anyone ever heard of building a floating plant pot, unlimited access to water, no trees to shade out, private, just need some hip waders and a flotation device.

I haven't heard of it, but I would love to see it! keep in mind most swamps have very poor oxygen levels, might want to make sure some of the root mass is above the water.

Concept would be a pot fully out of water, either floatong on a flat buoy with a wick or hammer a post into marsh with pot on top and a wick dropped into water.

I've thought of this before think it would work but I'd also be worried about what others have mentioned

I’ve definitely thought about it before but didn’t have anywhere to try it. I think it would be cool as hell. A few years back there was a guy on here that had some plants on an island in a swamp. I don’t remember how it turned out, but I do know he needed a small boat to get to his.

Would you need to maintain it other than observing when to harvest? There would be a trail, but I don't think they'd go in.

I have wetlands on my property. I haven't grown in them, yet. My plan this year is to try to grow a few plants in raised beds, right on the ground in the areas that don't get flooded with water, so the roots can grow down as deep as they want to.

I grew in swamps for yrs cattails-peat bogs you gotta get out there an scout for high spots, peat bogs are great you can walk on top of those if careful, 20 gal totes of promix with bottom cut out go out an top dress every 10 days all day sun.

I've seen an episode of kings of cannabis, I think that's the name, but it's where the guys from greenhouse seeds, actually travel all over the world looking for land races. Well long story short, one if the places they went, there was ppl doing that in not quite a swamp, but a wet marshland kinda area, and they actually built the land by stacking mud, and essentially made exactly what your suggesting. I'd reccomend you check it on YouTube, shouldn't be too hard to find.

It's something I may try if I can get my grow room reorganized in time. I also could do it on an island on the river, at least the tracks won't lead you right to it. It cuts off 99% of foot traffic. @TreeFarmerCharlie I was thinking of letting them go on their own, low maintenance if they survive great, if not then not much effort lost.

I've been in those type of peat bogs, they have an old feeling to them. Not much goes there and tracks can be seen for years in some areas.

Yeah, I’m pretty sure I know where I’m putting mine. We have about 1/4 acre of wetlands on my property and there’s a nice spot that is a little raised, and never gets too wet to walk on, and there’s a small creek that runs parallel to it. I think a raised bed for each plant would probably help feed them and then they will have a lot of room to root. I constantly forget to check on stuff outside (out of sight out of mind) so I’m hoping to keep it as hands off as possible. I have the plants that are going outside started already. I’m going with 1 Purple Haze, 1 AK-47, 2 Kings Banner, and 2 Cherry Wine.

I’m in MA, so it’s legal as long as they can’t be seen from the road with the naked eye. The local cops in my town are pretty laid back. I got a call last summer asking if I wanted to come get some 6’ - 8’ plants before they got cut down and composted (long story but farm employee was growing out back and left them there when he quit). My wife and I were bringing the first one home, with giant branches and leaves waving in the wind out from under the tarp, and we saw a cop sitting in a parking lot looking for people speeding. I looked at my wife and said “whelp, I guess we’ll see how the local cops are about transporting big cannabis plants today.”. We waved, he waved, and we did two more trips to get the other plants the same way.

No tracks in the bogs I use,If you stand still to long you will sink. pretty much a floating mat you can jump up an down an see trees move 50 ft away.

That's awesome, here its a mixed bag of viewpoints coming from law enforcement. I heard an ex cop tee off on mj, its a plant, not a meth factory and way better than pharma.

Your in the soggy bottom stuff, that shit is creepy especially on the floating mat stuff. Remember driving the atv on it thinking am I going to disappear? I wondered how many animals were at the bottom, lol You in northern Canada or Scandinavia, elsewhere?

Maybe get one of those NPK test kits & test the peat in the bottom? If you can guarantee O2 from a root mass above the waterline, micronutrients from your container soil, you really should be able to set it & forget it. Maybe put some support up early?
