Flooding Ebb Buckets Too Often

[QUOTE="Dr.Pecker, post: 10546622, member: 87543set Do you have to trim your roots with an ebb and grow? How often do you have to change the res? the more i read about this stuff the more it sounds like a pain in the butt. Your plant dont look bad at all except for the second pic under the hps. I got my dwc all set up and ran for a day the hydroton was damp so i guess it works but the bottle floating around was blocking my airstone.the frozen water bottle idea sounds good. to improve on your water cooling system with a frozen bottle it would be best to set the bubble buckets in a larger container like a rubbermade tote and float the bottle outside of the buckets so it doesn't block the bubbles.[/QUOTE]
It kind of is a pain at first but once its all set up and working correctly its pretty easy, you can trim roots if you have to. If the roots block the drains definitely trim them. My net pot only have holes in the very bottom so it contains most of the root mass. The idea of setting the Dwc buckets in a larger tote is an excellent idea! In Dwc buckets I change out the res every 10 days or so. It depends how much water the plants are drinking and how many nutes they're eating. In the ebb and grow I'll be running the same res for the whole grow and just topping off with water when needed and adjusting nutes when needed. Some people change it out in ebb and grow every week-every month, but its not always necessary.

Do you ever get buildup like slime in your res?You probably have to snake a wire and a rag through the lines to clean them huh?. I get slime and algae in my tea bucket and jugs that I use to water. Like I said im an organic guy. but this ol man showed me his bubble buckets about 2 years ago not shitting 7 footers indoors. the roots were filling the bucket so we trimmed them off. I never did get to see that baby before he harvested.

I am digging this organic thing tlo is the best I had magic mushrooms popping out of my soil that says something. im doing my organic in the green house and Ill run the two dwc inside. It will be my first real hydro. Ive done it before but used a soilless mix had to ph my water and use calmag. I guess ill have to lift them out of the bucket and slosh the bucket around every few minutes until the power comes back on. Thats the scary part for me.My friend got some o2 tablets from the pet store because his fish tank pump quit I wounder those could be used in an emergency.

Humm....Why your stem red??? Not so sure by that pic I would say a "Factual pic of an over watered plant". Once you correct their health I bet they will perk right up.

Those roots like real nice, and health, not limp (lazy) which you would expect to see with under oxygenated medium. The only times I ever had girls that looked like that my issue was Mg or P issues. Looking at those beautiful roots I would say your red stems are from Mg def. I see this mostly when I work with clones.

You claim you have a air stone in your main res, also when it pumps and drains you claim it adds 10X more O2. With all this added O2 and that fact you claim each bucket drains fully each cycle (no stagnant water left behind) How could you "over water" when we know they will grow in a bucket, perlite, coco, dirt, what ever....as long as their is O2 rich water?

Logic, if you look at the basic statement and your pic, should lead you to question your own conclusion. I know you think ebb and flow buckets are a beast of their own but the simple truth is every method has its own trails and tribulations, as long as their is O2 in the water you cant "over water". Bubble buckets would NOT work if you could "over water". And you have a bucket filled with clay balls not water that drains so if you are "over watering" its because of two things lack of drainage or lack of O2 -----NOT TO MUCH WATER

Maybe one of your lines are leaking water into the buckets and you don't know about it. Pull the lines off and see if water comes out when your pumps not on.;)

Ya that whole Red stem saying is way over used. In 25 years of growing I'v yet to have one strain that has had red stems when they were health. Now leaf stem are are different matter.

I'n not saying their no such thing as in the genetics, but I feel people want to say "could be genetics", plus the fact that the plant in question is Larry og and OG don't show this trait, think its safe to say genetics isn't the issue here.

Look dude I dont think any saint would razz a guy cuz he has a purple stem.Im growing a romulen with a purple stem How about kush it is og and larry I think those are kush am I rite? some kush plants are purple thats a fact buddy? How about temps? colder temps can cause purple.

genes Pp and Cc control the purple color in Cannabis. If P is present alone, only the leaves turn purple . If C is present alone, the plant stays green through out its life cycle despite environmental conditions. If both are present the calyxes of the plant will also turn purple as do the leaves and stems . so it could just be cold water.

Dude? Buddy? You just said "could be genetic" now you say "How about temps? colder temps can cause purple." What are you really trying to say???? Have you even read this thread and what we are talking about?

Well being the strain is larry OG NOT romulen and larry OG dose NOT have red stem when heath, dont be such a jack ass posting stupid statements trying to show just how smart you are or aren't. We know what strain it is so your post was silly for this situation.

I have not razz as you call it, AlphaPhase. We are discussing he statement on over watering. As your point brings out their are many reasons stems are red, dose not only mean over watering. He has already stated his red stems (again you would know if you read the whole thread) I was only going on what he has already posted in his 2nd post.

Ill say it again. I think your just trying to destroy a thread and heckle.

Well prove any of my statements are incorrect. I can prove some of your statement have been incorrect. Just because you don't agree, dose not mean I'm destroy or heckling anything. Please can we get back to the topic instead of your over inflated ego?

Hey y'all I'll get back to ya soon, everyone's making valid points, let's try to not put anyone down, this is all about learning. Here's some update pics from the last 48 hours of that particular clone getting better after being put into some organic soil. And one picture of the bud, is it just me or does the bud look like a teddy bear?! Anyways, ill be back to explain my findings later

wow it sure dose

Hope u didnt feel I was putting you down or any other thing. I do believe with your system, their is a point of running to many water cycles. As I stated before you are the best judge for your garden.

I should have just stated, I do not think this problem is do to to many water cycles only. It looks like your clone had some issues that showed up shortly after transplanting. By feeding more cycles with out correcting are adjusting your feed she has little or a poor chance to recover.

Depending on the volume of your medium a health girl should be able to handle feeding every 4-6 hours (lights on) In full bloom every 3. Lights out???? Some say ya some say na not trying to open that can of worms. I always did 1 just to be safe, cant say if it helped or not.

But you can do just as you stated with great results as well. You don't have to run that many water cycles.

I so hope they bounce back larry og is fun to grow and is some damn tastie smoke, need I add it packs a nice punch. I think I will do a run soon havnt done any in the last year. Mostly Kandy Kush and OG, also you may like dinnachem from dinafem its like the best og but tastier.

Hey man, I all the buckets look fine, here'ones a pic of the fill/drain , i loce the feature of this because if the tubes are ni. and flat a, it pretty much drains 100% its pretty cool! Also about cleaning out the tubes after a grow, i usually jist buy brand new ones each grow because they only cost like $10 for a 25' roll. Makes things easier and faster for sure! As for the red stems, both of my ebb strains have them this run. could be temp fluctuations aand cool water temps. Mind you they came from a 85° water temp bubble cloner to getting watered with sometimes 50° water once in the ebb system. I dont see any deficiencys in the leaves at all. Pretty much in the last 48-72 hours or so i changed the flood times from 9 hours and gradually went down to flooding every 6 hours. My therory of why the plants reacted this way is still overwatering. I got thinking that i use a small 4" netpot and put the clone in that first with hydroton then i put that netpot in the ebb netpots. The roots were pretty big and i just curled the roots in to the bottom of the net pots and it was kind of like a mat. I think watering so much at 2.5-3.5 hour flood times the first couple days was making that root mass too wet for new clones, kind of suffcating between the hydroton. The roots have now come way out of the small net pots, some roots are actually at the bottom of the big net pots already! They did only imea complete 180 and looking much better today after the rootsystems got bigger and can finally eat some nutes! Ill update more, but heres some pics of my last bubble bucket grow. It went out of control with only a 3 week veg time. Also pic of bottom of ebb buckets and clone from ebb

Its alright man, and thanks I definitely hope they come back full force, today they starting looking 10x better! I'm pumped because I was worried a little of a long set back time before they started growing again. Larry og is so great, its kinda tall and lanky to grow, but once its super cropped and scrogged it grows nice from what I've seen! And the smoke is so potent! Can't wait til august when I harvest them 8-) I really like all kush varieties.

Here's a Larry OG cutting that's about 4 days old today. Popped its first root today, even the clones have the red stems, my mother plant also shows red on stems, some more red than others. its weird I don't think its a nutes deficiency, they are all healthy as can be so I'm thinking temp changes but could be genetics, or a veryyyyy small P problem?

Here is my 1.5 month old Larry OG clone I made into a mother plant that I will be scrogging along with the ebb system. Its in a 3 gallon organic soil mix. The strains supposed to be tall and lanky, but as you can see, she loves supper cropping and responds well in to a nice little bush

very nice, what kinda of yield do u get from that 3 gal organic at 6 week veg. I just started with an organic soil mix, I'm at 10 weeks with some lemon thai kush, OG Kush and skunk#1. If this was hydro they would be monsters but I'm not sure how long to veg them in an water only soil. If i don't yield at least QP (not pop corn)its a waste of time and space. To be real (hard to really tell from your pic) mine dosent look to be much bigger then yours :-( and mines 10 weeks.

as u can see I train them so I have 6 main tops on the out side and I let the middle catch up, then I super crop all the main tops. Once they get around 18" I put them under a screen

Larry OG last year. Not the best yield 560g dry 4 plants 250g was bs pop corn Tho your fans leaves seem much bigger than mine
