flowering plants and a cicuit breaker trip. Help anyone?

I came back from work today to the suprise that my grow lights were not on. As I figured, my cicuit breaker had popped.
I recently upgraded from 2x 400watt hps to 2x600 watt hps which im sure is the reason that tripped the breaker.
My 600w ballasts are dimmable so getting them back on without popping my breaker shouldnt be an issue. I have my eletrician (who does alot of electrical work on grow rooms) looking at it in about a week to upgrade my wiring, but what do I do in the mean time??
I have heard that if this ever were to happen I have to leave my plants in total darkness for 24 hrs before introducing light again to prevent my girls from stressing out.

Is leaving them in 24 hours of complete darkness the proper solution here?

I would give them light ASAP. The lack of light might cause flowering, if your not already. If you put them in 24hr dark, and they are sexually mature, you will confuse the plants and some may think it's flowering time.

Split your electric load onto two circuits (Different breakers) and get back onto your set schedule.

Well both of my lights are supporting ladies that are 7 and 4 weeks into flowering (each on their own light, but in the same room). So I think I will be ok in that respect. (probably should have mentioned that earlier I suppose..)
