Flowering Stage

I have only done a couple grows, and im always wondering when using weeks of flowering (ie. 8wks, 9wks or 10wks), when do you actually start counting the weeks? Is it at first signs of sex or when you first cut the time back? I just always wonder, how much longer i could have let it go and what it could have done as far as yield is concern. I like and use the microscope idea of checking the trichs, but it seems like at what im seeing at ripeness, i should have 2 weeks left sometimes. So thats why I wonder if its really at time you cut the time back. Or maybe my old eyes are showing me what i want to see, and i whack them early out of impatience....(couldnt possibly be that one...i would never...well ok....maybe i might think about it...lol)...also asking as it took about 2 weeks to show sex on my tangerine dream currently going.

The weeks reccomended is just an approximate number. I have old ass eyes too. Go on ebay and look for a 30x Jeweler Loupe. 6 bucks. Use that too look at your Trichs(crystlas) when they are 50% amber and your Calyxes (hairs) are 50% orange to brown, theyre done. The weeks given is just an estimate. When you use that Loupe you have to get it like 1 inch from the bud.

The breeders flowering time is usually wrong. Dont bother counting the weeks for the purpose of determining a finishing time. The only true measure of completeness is the trichome color.

This is a good question and there is a lot of misunderstanding. There is a difference between flowering time and time on 12/12. It takes a week or so on 12/12 for flowering to begin so you can automatically add a week to the estimates you see online. But in the end you go by the trichs (get a used school microscope on ebay cheap). WHEN IN DOUBT, LET IT GO AWHILE. fAR MORE IS HARVESTED TOO EARLY THAN TOO LATE.

they say when the first sign of sex shows then its flowering time after that
me pals use calenders and that and i say bugger that pull them when u know ther ready chek for amber trickes and the plant will visibly change start swelling ect TRUST ME YOU WILL KNOW WHEN U SEE THE CHANGE then soon as u do start flushing with plain tap water to get them nutes out people say 2 weeks 1 week will be fine i did 5 days and was fine good look

Thank you all for your input...i have a magnifier that I think it goes up to 80 or its 100...either way and was real cheap at radio shack. I still have a ways to go as i just started my "4th week" of 12/12 back on wednesday...if counting weeks, be ready on leap day, but will just keep checking the trichs and hairs...and maybe learn some patience lol
