Flowering - When to do final flush

Hey guys I’m on week 6 of flowering, trichomes are still all clear, and about 50% of hairs are orange. I’m wondering, are there are any visual indications you go by to know when to start the final flush and stop nutrients?

Also what are your opinions on increasing hours of no light. Instead of 12/12 slowly adding adding an hour of darkness every week here on out? I’m figuring I’ll stop after I get to dark 16/8 light.

Flush 3 days after you think you would chop. And yes you can go to 14 hours of darkness. You can do anything you want, it won’t make too much of a difference. But me I am not going to flush my dwc until I figure I would chop it. Then il flush, and wait a day or two. Flush meaning suck all the nutrient water out and replace with just plain water. See what happens

I’m currently on 14 hr of dark just because I want to speed things up. I am happy with the yeild. I might even, turn the lights on for 3 days streight and see what happens, it seems to push out more trics when it begins to look like revegging

Please direct me to the sources that you are being encouraged to flush
Include links to anything not just an opinion
Thanks inn advance and welcome to RIU

I think that depends on your idea of flushing?
There's a plain stupid version of not feeding the plant for x amount before chopping.

Or maturing the plant then giving it water for the final 3/5 days, my theory is the plant will have used up/converted any minerals available.

If plants take up nutrient then it stands to reason that there must be residue once dried, there can't not be.

I only feed 40% rec dose of main nutes

A lot of answers to respond to lol, @Herb & Suds - a tone of sources. My research suggest that (flushing) running PH neutral water through your grow medium to “flush” excess nutrients. This starts the break down of chlorophyll sooner which renders a better end product.
Given I’m running DWC a flushing the medium is not necessary, however I still want to promote the early breakdown of chlorophyll.
@Star Dog - I’m looking to just go 2-5 days with ph neutral water. That way she can start to breakdown left over nutrients within. What I’m uncertain about is how to gauge when to start flush then run 48 hours of dark. I don’t want trichs to degrade during this process also don’t want to pull the trigger to early. I’m currently in week 6 of flower and all trichomes are still clear

REALLY?

I'll show you mine if you show me yours?

Research isn't " I read it somewhere" !

@Splash Gordon I gauge it from its maturity, your seeing the plant regularly so you'll notice it going through its final stages, it's not something that just happens in 3/4 days, you'll know when it's ready that's when I start water.

I don't know about trichs degrading over that period, I wouldn't think so but I can't say with any certainty.

Good shit, thank you for sharing! The information I got mentioning flushing initially came up in a book on audible. I’ve listened to 3 on there so don’t know which one it was but then saw a tone of shit on YouTube supporting that info. Granted none of my sources are white papers or peer reviewed journals.

A plant acts as a wick in a loose sense, what you put in the roots goes into, around and the water leaves the plant via humidity minus the minerals.

I'm not wanting to get into wether or not it makes a difference to the end product that's up to the individual but you can't dispute there's minerals residue left behind?

I totally agree the end product comes down to a subjective experience. My perspective is if I can initiate the breakdown of those left over minerals sooner then there’s a higher probability of them being gone faster leading to a better end product. In the future I plan on running two of the same genetics side by side to see if I notice a difference in yield and end product.

nutrients are immobile for the most they won’t breakdown or go away. the reason they do testing to see if you have anything adverse in your product when your commercial. The harsh smoke is from chlorophyl not being broken down properly. It takes 10 to 14 days of nice controlled drying to do this right. Speed drying is where most ppl have issues. Don’t starve your plant the final two weeks are important. Making them turn in on itself to to cannibalize itself will hurt end weight, terpenes, thc and everything else good That you want.
