flowering?

my plants are about 90 days old, they have not flowered yet, i guess the light cycle have something to do with it. the plants have about 14 hours light 10 hours darkness.
i know i have to get the cycle down to 12/12, but my plants grow out side and i cant really move them. how do i get them to flower? :roll:

you could also try building a sort of black out box or tarp like structure that you could just put over them after they have had their 12 hours of light. not really sure how you would go about doin sumtin like that but its sumtin you could look into ya kno

No sweat & a simple fix,you can force outdoor plants to bud simply by placing a black garbage bag over them each afternoon a few hours before the sun goes down & removing it after the sun is all the way down.

Other than that there is no other way to induce budding on outdoor plants.

Do you live in Alaska? LOL I only ask because outdoor plants that old should be near harvest time. I have a solution but I don't know how "do-able" it is.

Panhead- I have alot of respect for you, you have been here longer than I have, but I don't think a trah bag is a good idea. I only say this because from my landscapping experiance, plastic over plants can kill them, even if it were just an hour. Also sunlight still penetrates trash bags.

I saw an ad in high times for a "tent" that was shaped like a dome. You assemble the frame around the grow site. Then when you change your light cycle you simply roll the dome over the plants. It promises to block out all photo, uv, and infra red light.

Now this thing cost alot! It was like $650. WAY too much. But it looked like something that could be semi-easily recreated with 1" pvc pipes and some good quality tarp.

What ever you do, avoid placing plastic directly on the plants, it makes them sweat, over heat, dehydrate, and possibly die.

also check out www.blackoutcurtains.com the material they use is completely unpenatrable by any form of light i use one for my closet set up and the great thing about it is they custom make them to your size and dimensions but its kind of expensive but worth checking out. good luck

Im kinda sitting here wondering about the overheat thing you speak of,where im at in michigan the average temps at harvest time are in the low 60's in the heat of the day,i ran black contractor bags on my outdoor plants this year with no ill effects,infact they came out perfect.

you can only keep waiting till the light changes to the trigger point. I bet a guy could become a millionaire overnight if he invented a spray on flowering starter.

i wish i lived in alaska:grin: i actually live in south africa, we are going into our summer season now, so our days are about 12-14 hours long. my plants are in pots so i could also carry them indoors if i needed to. thanks for the advice.

plants that old should be middle of flowering if not ready to harvest LOL

you have no other choice, your days are going to get even longer they'll never bloom unless you shorten the time outside to 12 hours daylight.

Hey Panhead,

Yeah I didn't think about the geographical differences. The world really is flat when you have the internet, weird were talking with people in North America, South Africa, UK. Anyway, here in Florida you CANT put plastic over your plants or it cooks them, alot like those oven bags do to pork chops.

Erica,

You are in for a LONG veg season if your just now starting summer. Your plants wil be MASSIVE! I would let one stay outside the whole time. When fall comes for you, your going to have a TON of herb. Giant Thai sticks! Keep us updated, good luck.
