Preferably 12 inches. Anything less and when it starts flowering it dosent have a good enough root system to get supplimental nutrients. Rep+

It depends on how big your grow room is. One of the experiaced members of this site told me" move your light all the way up to the top of your grow room, measure from the light bulb to the top of your soil. devide that by three and that is the ammount when you should flower." So if you have 66 inches between your light and the top of your planter then you should start flowering at 33 inches! I started at 16 inches and one of my girls stretched to 36 inches in 2.5 weeks! It has slowed down so I am still OK but I would say between 12-16 inches if you grow room is 6.5 feet tall.
