You can try just clipping a branch.
Cut it off and stick the cut end in a glass of water, see if it sucks up the water.
Would be easy to do a true side-by-side and actually see the difference between flushed with that method and non flushed weed (if you don't flush the plant).
Then you would have your own personal data and conclusions, instead of relying on internet hearsay.
What you experienced could be from a number of things.
A poor dry or cure, bugs, mold, maybe the (inexperienced) grower foiler sprayed with some nasty shit while at the end of flower.
Lots of possibilities.
"Not flushing" isn't one of them though.

I personally just did do a side by side recently. The unflushed weed is exactly the same as the flushed weed. Even other people can't tell the difference in blind taste/smoke tests.
