so use ph water or tap water
I think u are mistaken a little.
ph water means water that you have adjusted the ph of...... you can adjust the ph of tap water....do u mean filtered water? you never want to use filtered water. It doesnt have certain minerals that plants need.

Here's how to check and adjust the ph. (yes use tap water)

water a plant with plain tap water, and collect the water that runs out the bottom of the buckets through the holes. Then check the ph of that "run-off" water. adjust the ph of that water, not the ph of the tap water when it comes out of the focet. when you water or feed the plants, the ph will change from the time you water untill it comes out the bottom. that is why you want to check the ph of the water inside the soil, and not the sink.
hope that makes sence.

but..... you always PH the water that you give the plants so that they take up the most nutes and micro nutes...

So let's say that your water is ph 7.3 and the ph of the soil water is 7.6. If we want the soil at 6.5, then our differential is 1.1, correct? So we adjust our water to 6.2. Am I understanding this correctly?

Run off tests are not good. You want the actual water that you are putting in with nutes to be between 5.8 and 6.3 Ph. The plants take up alot of the water as soon as you water if you're drying your pots properly. So you want the plants to be taking it up between 5.8 and 6.2 depending on growing medium. The run off water could have WAY different properties than what the plants are drinking.

I read tis several times and am not sure if I'm being clear. Let me know if you need more clarification.
