Flushing

So ive been flushing my gdp with water the past 5 days and its looking ready to harvest. I was planning on waiting till monday wich would make it a week that id flushed the plant with just water and no nutes. Do you think a week is long enough to make it so my buds dont taste all chemically and stuff?

It will indeed help. What were you growing in and what nutrients were you feeding?

growing in pots and using foxfarm nutes

what is your medium? has the plant stopped putting on weight?

I meant what kind of growing medium. But I will assume Fox Farm Ocean Forest (as its damn common, and for good reason).

How often have you been watering with plain water? As in, how many times in the last week? I am sure you will be fine though. Don't stress it so much, and if it winds up tasting a lil funny (which I doubt) then you know better for next time.

Best way to tell if a plant is ready harvest is by its Trichromes (crystals). Grab a 30x microscope (they're really cheap) and check them out. If the majority are milky white then it is pretty close. Could even cut it down then if you want a more Sativa type high. Or, wait till about 20% or so have turned an amberish color for a more Indica "couch lock" type high.

One week is ok. Two weeks is good. Three is excellent. Most important phase in my book.

I havent started growing yet but im liking that picture of Mac Dre T.I.P. But from what im read you should flush for 1-2 weeks

Sucks though if he cuts before quick drying a nug to test it. Better be sure unless you dont mind chemical taste. If you want to be sure and ready in 2 days flat, go get flora kleen. The plant will eat itself clean in two days flat with no chemical taste in the entire plant.

Buddy of mine uses the same nutes, he flushes for about a week and things come out just fine. That's why I say he should be fine.

OP, if you are that worried about it..then yeah snag some Flora Kleen..I personally use it.

i flushed for 4 days and the smoke is as smooth as can be, i gave my 15 gal. pots 45 gal of water each and when i tested the run off it was at 100 ppm, 2 week flush to me is pointless unless you trying to sve money on food. check the trichs with the 30x scope should see some amber before harvest.

You should be fine at a week, but 2 would be preferable. Have the leaves started losing their color yet? Have your pistils completely retracted? If not give them another week they'll just keep packing on trichomes and you won't need to cure them as long to get a smooth/tasty smoke. Just my opinion, if you can take them longer then do it. But I do like my herb at the peek of ripeness.

has anyone ever actually had this "chemical" taste from not flushing a plant? i consistently fert up til harvest and have had nothing but smooth smoke after a good dry and cure. just curious whether or not i have been lucky in some way, or if flushing is just a bunch of hooey. please enlighten me.

I've definately tasted buds like that. Very harsh and a relitatively bad smoke.
Flushing for longer periods of times will shorten curing times. Basically there will be less chlorophyll to break down. And the buds will have used up all the nutrients they've stored up

But if you already getting a taste and smoke you're happy with, keep on doing your thing. It's worth a try though

Many times actually. Another friend/member here didn't flush one of his plants his last grow...yeah..we didn't wind up smoking much of that one.

He flushed the next one he lopped down for about a week I think. That plant came out fine, no chemical burn/taste on the tongue or throat.

fa sure thanks! i gave a lil nug some burts in the microwave and it was all good. so i hacked it and its hanging to dry as we speak! looking real good

Best to give her at least 10 days of plain water before you chop, depends how muc nutes are retained in the soil too. good luck bro..
