foliar auxins

Would foliar application of an auxin containing biostimulant/phytohormone such as cold pressed ascophyllum nodosum concentrate promote more lateral shoots when used in combination with LST techniques during veg?

It works that way on plants sent to garden centers so I would assume you'd get more lateral shoots. Interesting thread actually - I'd love to know the result of a grow using it.

Yup, same here, would be awesome to know if anyones tried it. Having abit of a rethink of my feeding program at the moment.. will add it to my long list of experiment todos :)

Learn the basics first of the correct application of your spectrum of nutrients. Most problems in growing are avoided by not overdoing it. adding an outside substance is a mute point if you don't know the correct first steps to begin with. A chef is measured by how he uses his ingredients not the ingredients available. Salt and pepper on a perfect steak is something only someone with experience can obtain.

Yes but auxin stimulates top growth.
Cytokinins are responsible for lateral branching.
They are the main ingredient in ascophyllum nodosum along with many others such as auxin vitamins ect. !

BAP and kinetin are 2 cytokinins.

Hi Trichead and resident science nerds,
How about Willow water? Where does that fit in. I had a huge weeping willow where I lived before I moved. Made willow water and used it for cloning, seed starting and even clone momma transplanting. Seemed to help with more then rooting. Opinions?

hoagtech, don't worry im not chucking loads at it, theres things i want to improve in my base feeding program before i start experimenting with stuff like this anyway.

It was more of a general knowledge question following the LST auxin logic, whether at certain times and locations, applications mimicking the plants natural auxin processess during training might enhance the plants ability to grow more dominant shoots and dense top growth in an LST scenario (or not for that matter).

Oh no. There are Auxins, Gibberellins, Cytokinins, Ethlyenes, and Abscisic Acids as the 5 main classes of hormones.

So,, I can say auxins are the big player in rooting, as well. Not so simple really. There are antagonist and protagonists and it tends to work in pairs. It is a balance of pairs. Enhancers and Inhibitors

So, it is not so easy to just add something. You may well have to suppress something as well. If not, the plant convents the excess. So, it is a waste unless you know the biology.

I've had good luck with the rooting auxins in Beneficial Microbes, for example and I use flower hardener and oll producing hormone pairs in Bloom....carefully.

Playing games with synthetic hormones which may interfere or conflict with a plant's natural hormone influences is a crap shoot. To quote Forest Gump, "using hormones is like a box of chocolates....you never know what you're gonna get."

I agree!!
But some times it is fun to rummage through a box to see what you may find!!!
I have been on one hell of a journey with hormones!!!!!!!
I trashed a few plants with Gibb.
Some forerunners like:clap: Spurr,dizzlekush,Omera1,Stealthy ect. had a few posts I learned a lot from!!!!!!!!!!!
Now I am learning first hand what they do...how they work together...Hormones are strain dependent also!!!!!
I saw how the same media, food, spray effected all 6 plants/strains differently!!!!
So be careful!!!
Not meaning you Ben.

Didn't we learn anything from the Tobacco industry?

Quit screwing with the plants!
But, if you knew what you were talking about.....

What auxins are used in Tobacco? See? So, hand waving is never helpful. Tobacco is grown about the same way it always was.

But, the drug is completely different, now. It comes out the same and then it is altered. It would be like mixing THC with battery acid and saying it was for the flavor. But, actually it turns it into Speed. Something like that.

So, I am pointing out, the poor tobacco leaf is not smoked properly any longer. It is not smoked at all. First thing the nicotine is extracted, modified, remoulded, and stabilized so it can be enhanced. And it is enhanced in a purely secret process of adding industrial chemicals. You have seen the lists. All that is put back into the extracted plant matter and that is a ciggy.

So, what we are not doing is all that. And Tobacco is not grown with all that, That stuff is added and the problem is tobacco is a Nightshade.

Potatoes, tomatoes, sweet and hot peppers, eggplant, tomatillos, tamarios, pepinos, pimentos, paprika, and cayenne peppers are classified as nightshade foods. A particular group of substances in these foods, called alkaloids, can impact nerve-muscle function and digestive function in animals and humans, and may also be able to compromise joint function. Because the amount of alkaloids is very low in nightshade foods when compared with other nightshade plants,

http://www.sciencedaily.com/articles/s/solanaceae.htm
The family includes the Datura or Jimson weed, eggplant, mandrake, deadly nightshade or belladonna, capsicum (paprika, chile pepper), potato, tobacco, tomato, and petunia.

So, this is a killer weed, a coffin nail, on it's own. Poison. If I used Hormones to grow tobacco and maybe they do, you just get bigger yields, broader leaves, etc.

But, nicotine, in the raw form is not even in processed tobacco. It is all designer enhanced putbacks,

The studies say the damn filters are the worse of it. Don't smoke Tobacco. Even raw, the Indians knew to just take tiny sips and pass around the bowl.

Tobacco is the modern War Weed and has been enhanced for that. Seriously.

Awesome post!

I have little doubt that you know the term "slippery slope", you are obviously well read. It is that, the "slippery slope" that I am always wary of.

Well, thanks for taking it in the spirit intended.

I have no doubt someone at Big Bacca is already looking into the enhancement question for our beloved substance, And I am sure they have produced all manner of madness with it already. And I have no doubt it will be crossed with tobacco and become the Better War Weed.

But, it is so difficult to grow tobacco and so easy to grow ganga I have no worries....for my lifetime. What is next is for the young.

They need to get a read on the 5 year olds. They are the only ones now, that can Do Something. If they only knew.......:)

My kid has been taught about things we didn't need to know about, I think the next generation will handle it well.
