Food-grade white buckets okay for space bucket or need mylar/paint?

Are the 5 gallon food-grade white buckets from the major home box store okay to use by themselves, if covered on the outside? I don't really want to paint the inside of the bucket wit the plant so close, fumes and all that. Is it okay to leave the bucket as is, or should I put mylar inside? Cheers!

For hydroponic I would suggest covering the outside of the buckets. You dont really want any light getting to the root zone. This also includes any reservoirs as well. For soil I dont believe it to be of great importance since the soil kills any light that would get to the root zone anyways. Welcome to RIU

I meant for light reflectivity. I will probably make a spacer with 5050 strips, but I just want to know if I need additional reflective material or if the inside of the bucket is fine as is.

The white ones are great. Actually, the rectangular buckets like what kitty litter comes in work better. They're closer to 6 gallons and the flat sides work better for the fans. Rather than putting a fan in the side of the bucket, plant directly into a full size uncut bucket and put the intake in the first spacer. That's how I veg and then pop the tops off when I move them to a flowering cabinet and they're already in a nice 6 gallon bucket. My spacebuckets act as my "veg room" and work very well for that purpose.
