For you AZ boys. What's your drying method?

I noticed a MUCH faster drying since moving out from Colorado. Even started I've taken some steps to slow it down a bit. I think I'll be adding in a humidifier here soon to help slow it down even more.

Whats your method?

I hang them in the bathroom from the curtain rod for two days, then I put them 1 layer thick in paper lunch bags and slide and additional lunch bag over them and close bag with clip and lay them in the bathtub for three days (keeps them very cool and water evaporates more slowly), then jar them. I don't cut the water down before harvest. They are on the same schedule regardless of chop date. For me, this helps curb the dryness of Arizona.

No fan on them in the paper bags? Sounds like a mold situation waiting to happen no? Do you shake the bags each day?

no fan...just the exhaust fan and yes i check them every day. The cool tub seems to inhibit mold. No mold...just sweet smelling aromas.

Sometimes I will use the box from the kids diapers. Put your trimmed buds in there and close it up and shake em every day, open every other day for an hour or so. This method should take 7-10 days vs. 2 days flat when I hang them in the closet on clothes hangers, that's way too fast. When that happens sometimes I will re-wet it a little and jar it for a day, then try drying slower. But that's touchy and annoying. I also think a humidifier would be a good option, maybe someday I'll buy a tent and try that

If your putting really wet material in a bag then yes you are inviting a place for mold to start... As long as the overall humidity is under 70 % in the bag / jar / whatever you use to dry you will not get mold.

45-55rh 65-75f. if you have trouble maintaining proper environmental levels then i am more concerned with your grow...

Just get a tent. Throw it in your flower room and you are good. I usually dry in my flower room once my crop is completely done. I just turn out the lights, crank up my humidifier and turn down my exhaust fans. Temps stay between 62-68 and RH is 40-50%. It usually takes about 4 days till the stems are almost snapping. From there they go into an oven bag or box, SEALED. Checking it everyday to make sure it isn't too wet or too dry. Once they are "perfect" I will take them out of the bag and jar them up. Only burping once a week for 3 weeks and then once a month for however long I feel is right :)

P.s I was joking about the tent but they can work just as well if not better

I just cut the whole tree and hang it upside down and start trimming a little at a time by the 4th or 5th day I have all the major fan leaves trimmed and I start cutting the good buds off and start doing my manicure. This way is just way easier because you dont have to go all out trimming just start plucking leaves and as the days pass they come of easier then by the time your buds are dry enough all you have to do is a simple manicure. After the buds get a good manicure I put them into the jars for 10-15 days burping every day. Here in AZ your buds will dry up fast.

Yes a good rule of thumb that I was taught was to just go to Wal Mart and buy a cheap small china made hygrometer and I keep one or two in my curing jars to keep a close eye on humidity.. Best advice " over dried bud is still better than moldy bud"

no real science....
What I do is
spread or hang until a little crispy on the outside. Put in a closed container to pull the moisture into the dry material. repeat until the stems shrink down. then pack for slower curing...

I clip it all on harvest and use small card board boxes with the top open and place in a cool dark place. I shake the box daily and jar after a week or so.

Key to a quick dry!

Trim the flowers down to the highest inter-node, working from the bottom up, until there is no visible nodes just pure flower!!

5-10 day dry time depending on flower size and density!

Trimming all accessible stems give the flowers a better taste. Same goes with leaf. Trim the leaf down to the stem if possible.. Unless the strain is very frosty; lightly trim leaf tips to desired flower look!!


OH... What I do that most don't... When I harvest I go straight into trimming..
Reason - The stacks are still pulling up nutrients from stem after being harvested! TASTE! Would you smoke stems? No Why have the taste of stem in your flowers? Unless you are trying to have more weight and high quality flowers is not a concern!

How long does that take you lol? When I started out I would do it the same way but I would find myself locked in the room for like 6 hours straight. I used to take days off work to trim and manicure my buds..

Shit in colorado we dry in 5 days need a humidifier there

I have a humidifier in my drying room now and even with that fucker on for an hour its only 47% in the room. Im gonna try just hanging for 2-3 days this next harvest and then putting them all in large brown paper grocery bags. I am harvesting 21 plants so im thinking ill need about 16 bags at least. Maybe ill do those cardboard filing boxes. I know a large commercial guy in Mendocino that uses those.

47% and it still dries in 2-3 days. Your problem is that you don't grow big enough nugs. I dry at 42-48% and it takes about 5-7.

Agree!!!
Too many varibles to give an exact time to dry!
Stem thickness to cola thickness all play a roll in the drying process..
The same applies to the curing process!!

mold in az??? lol jk

you can simply hang them, 1-2 days... box them 1-2 more days, then its off to the jars for the 55-60% cure...

you can still use whichever different "method" you want to... but the only thing you have to be careful about is them getting TOO dry too fast...

so it takes up more of your attention quicker, rather than say if your were in an area that already had 50-60 % humidity vs 10-30%...
