Forget Terrorism, Republicans Are America’s Greatest Existential Threat

Americans face greater threats of extreme weather, sea-level rise, water scarcity, heat waves, and wildfires, and biological systems disturbance.

Any sane, semi-intelligent human being would tend to listen to experts if they repeatedly were warned their existence was in jeopardy. It is a damn crying shame that Republicans are not only not remotely sane, or semi-intelligent, because they have willfully ignored a couple of decades’ worth of warnings from experts that their families and nation are facing an existential threat of epic proportions.

This week, in a very straight-forward and easy to understand letter to mainly Republicans in Congress, 31 leading scientific societies reiterated their warnings and the reality that human beings burning carbon are causing climate change, and that at this point only human beings can stop it. As if it was breathtaking news, the scientists wrote, “To reduce the risk of the most severe impacts of climate change, greenhouse gas emissions must be substantially reduced.”

Remember, Republicans either claim that anthropogenic climate change is a liberal lie, a plot to destroy the American oil industry, a dirty hoax perpetrated by those nasty scientists, or it doesn’t exist and everything is normal.

They're not stupid, they're corrupted by special interests

That's why no amount of proof will change anything. If someone doesn't accept the evidence by now with all the scientific proof already available, they never will. The evidence isn't the problem, the fossil fuel industry buying politicians is the problem.

I agree completely. The politicians aren't stupid, they're cunning. They prey on the ignorance of their constituents by invoking fear. "They're going to take away your______." They don't like to listen to all of that fancy "sciency" stuff anyway.

So, despite the fact that we have evidence that the climate is in a constant flux, either heating or cooling, this person or bodies proposes to stop that from happening in the future? Are they going to change the orbit of the planets?

Science isn't an opinion

You have an opinion based in ignorance, science has verifiable facts based in experimentation and reason
So if 97% of scientists decided that gravity was non-existant we would be floating around right? Or would that take 100% of them?

My opinion is based on the same facts that you have. The interpretation of those 'facts', the manipulation of those 'facts' and the resulting political agenda is what I am discussing.

Wait, wait, I know we've got some simpletons as well as some deranged fucks around here, but are there actually people that are debating the reality of climate change/global warming?
LOL

Science DOES tend to frighten and confuse the lower forms, though, so this should not surprise me....'creation museum', anyone? Wanna tell me about those dinosaurs (or 'Jesus horses' as you might know them) or how your imaginary friend in the sky is watching and doesn't want you stroking off to queer porn?
We haven't scorched the earth with overuse of chemicals, overconsumption, and fossil fuels either, right?

97% of scientists didn't decide anthropogenic climate change exists.. They conducted replicable experiments that empirically demonstrates the validity of the scientific hypothesis.

Your opinion is based on right-wing propaganda and ignorance. You accept the global conspiracy theory that you have not demonstrated to be real.

No, 97% of scientists didnt agree on anything.

A paper was taken out of context and a sub-set sample of people, some who barely could be considered scientists were tabulated to be 97% of scientists.

It is a lie, it has been proven as a lie and yet you continue to spout it as if it was the truth. Furthermore, you use consensus on a 'Theory' as proof of the theory despite conflicting results.

Science is the study of phenomenon to come up with explanations. It uses the scientific method. I have explained how the scientific method cannot be applied to global warming as you do not have a control group. Yes land temperatures are rising, yes CO2 is rising but A does not = C when C is to redivert a massive amount of wealth from developed countries to non-developed countries.

But hey, you want to save the planet using someone elses cash... I get it, I just dont agree with it.
